:-)

I wasn't able to find a similarly precise chart for UK wholesale butter although I found a few rough charts that showed it had peaked mid-year. I thought it was interesting that the price has basically been flat since February. It would not be unfair to say that butter and sugar are trading at the same price as last winter and wheat and oil are down. Granted, there were sharp rises last year but it makes talk of volatility this year sound excessively gloomy. Given that we have been told price increases are being passed on, it almost looks positive for margins. I suppose it depends on how supply contracts are negotiated.

It was probably just milk when he started watching it.

Ale, I've heard of trainspotters before but a butter watcher is a scary new phenomenon.

That was over quickly. Wonder if it has been the same seller offloading over the last year every time he can get 25p.

In my opinion, after this recent rally we are approaching 1/4 to 1/3 of fair value :-)

Share price has been lively since the golden cross last week. Trying for a 2-year high.

Thanks tv, I note 'net debt' of £36.5m at last (2010) year end, being a reduction from y/e 2009. A 1p div at this year's final stage would cost them just over £0.5m. I would guess they'll resist that temptation, but maybe give a nod towards the 2012 finals stage. As you say, we'll see soon enough. ex

I personally doubt a dividend this time around, topvest, given the negative net worth here - if you strip out (acquisition) goodwill. Like many, this is a stock that has borrowed against itself (in effect) to assemble itself. Debt reduction and balance sheet reparation would seem the order of the day, for quite a while yet. Improved trading (and hopefully much improved profits) and continued debt reduction would appear to be the route out/up from today's weak NTAV. As that process advances, and it may take some years, the share price may improve further, but I suspect there will be some buying opps along the way. I gained a foothold last week and will add on share price weakness (if any). I agree with you, "people will still want to buy their cakes in good times and bad". Thanks for all inputs above, very useful, ex

Anyone think / expect a return to the dividend list with the results? Remember, Lonfin are keen on getting income from their investments. Has to be a possibility, even if just a token 1p imho. No expectation of a dividend, but may either surprise, or signal one next year? Either prospect would do the rating some good. At the end of the day, I'm expecting FIF to come good again. The company is well run and people will still want to buy their cakes in good times and bad.

The headline and summary were:

Bad news is already baked in at Finsbury
- cake maker is coping creditably with elevated commodites and depressed consumer demand.

The negatives look more than priced in and a re-rating is long overdue, given Finsbury's growth scope in fragmented markets.

Got tipped in Shares Mag today. Basically said that it had headwinds but was oversold on a miserly p/e of 2.7 at 22.75 so buy ahead of results.
