So results and corporate action shenanigans to come next.Dividend chasers now out of the way, Gas price looks to have bottomed and (imo) should firm as more production goes offline as unprofitable or marginal. Balanced by litigation and macro US environmental challenges.

Yup - as I previously noted - all being equal it will fall by the dividend amount and pretty much has done.

Shorters are having an effect.in real world each action has an effect whatever it is btw. But what i am saying is

They might have a small loss (In relative terms) on the short position.

But it enables them to load huge amounts of shares at 900 to 1000 levels.

Before closing their short at a loss.

Price goes up, they collect divi and they make huge profits on their position going up, which more than offsets the shorting loses

Down by approximately the dividend amount - hardly a surprise. The volume is low so far.

Concentrate on your own risk assesment of the company and take a position accordingly. This should take such things in to account.Last year's macro newsflow lent itself to being a company targeted by short positions, 2024 is likely to be the same with a Gas price below the level which is sustainable for producers, ongoing litigation unknowns and a president who is happy to put a spanner in the works.

Yes PB and it was down less than that when I posted and still is. Obviously there will be some volatility as ever.

Who is arguing about the circumstances? Not me I am buying. Those trying to say shorters are not having an effect have an agenda or have not been investing for long.

Yes and shorters can be wrong, only number 22 on the list above. This all started with the ineffective letter from 3 democrats (since answered in detail) but which carried no weight anyway. It's good to see that the price this morning has dropped by less than the dividend amount.

shorters are always a small minority. PFC which is number 1 on the list is a basket case is at 11% shorters. Many of those above DEC I wouldnt touch with a bargepole.

One makes shorting to make money directly from shorting eg. share price difference.

One makes money from.shorting in direct and indirect ways

X Cheap accumulation of shares at lower shorted levels
X making money on options or other derivative plays
X many other different reasons

So i do not bother screaming shorting and looking at the share price

Because i know i do not know. It is not simplistic any more

No.22 on this list..

Regardless with only 3.3% of the shares shorted being about £15m of a £484m market cap company the shorters are still a small minority.

you missed out the small fact that DEC is the 9th most shorted stock in the UK, I suggest that is significant.
Not sure what this recent craze of trying to downplay the shorters effect is about by a couple of new posters. Simple facts suggest they area significant issue.

Henry Hub Natural Gas up a bit should help sentiment (regardless of the 80% hedged).

It's not uncommon for the fall on XD day at the open to be a bit more than the actual dividend amount and remember we were trading at ~£9 over a few weeks not long ago. It will be a subsequent recovery as we approach the tender offer that will be important.

So 992p here and currently 1062p in the US. The ex-dividend move will be a bit more interesting than usual.

I closed my position today as well.I expect a raft of selling tomorrow - dividend chasers and institutions wanting to be on the short side. I am thinking we'll see it in the mid 8s very soon.

I'm counting on that Appollocreed, sold my holding today and made almost the same as the dividend had I held. Put in a buy order for 920p, we shall see.
