I am attracted by the extremely high yield return on DEC. plus placing without broker fee and stamp duty ( is almost a no brained ) however this is a lesson I will learn . The way DEC reacted after yesterday and today gave me the COLD SWEAT. Sometimes thing that looks good from the outside is rotten at the core as there is a saying . For those that managed to make a profit or a good returns - GOOD HUNTING. & GOOD LUCK

stevensuppertreader, if you take what any forum says into consideration before investing in a stock, you are an idiot. And on this board, whilst being an idiot isn't a rare thing, if you listen to anything said by any idiot on this board, you are a superidiot. There you go, some free advice for you.

There it is, issued equity price hit at 105p, no reason for it to move much now until 02.03.2023, probably just get pulled along sideways +/- the stronger dollar in GBP..

Steven Are you certified to give investment advice? You don't need to warn anyone about buying DEC or any other vehicle , we are all big boys and girls and can make our own investment decisions.

A little bit of history may be of interest, especially to those new to DEC.

I first bought in February 2018, at 83, and doubled the holding inApril that year at 81. On November 13 that year I sold out at 115, and repurchased the next day at 110.

Since then we have been back below 80 (I purchased more at 78), and up to 130, or a little over. Over the years, I have purchased as low as 78, and as high as 118, for a current average of a tad over 101 (not counting the turn made on the sale and repurchase). Over my 5 years as DEC holder, I have of course received a large amount of income. It is the total return that counts.

During that period, the dividend has only increased, through low gas prices and high.

The moral is that for a high and rising dividend payer, DEC has been surprisingly volatile, but the SP, even at today's price, is well up over 5 years, and well down on the price for most of the last couple of years. Nothing is certain in life, but this does look an excellent buying opportunity to me, and a stunner for anyone who can buy under the placing price of 105.

I can well understand that anyone who started a position last year in the high 120s may look at DEC with a less enthusiastic eye, but there does seem to me to be good reason to believe that when he too has been a holder for 5 years he will look back on the investment as happily as I do now, especially if he is able to add to his position at or under the current price. Even those purchases in the high 120s look a lot less expensive when you adjust for a couple or three dividends paid subsequently.

I do hope this post is not tempting fate. DEC is my largest holding, so it will be an expensive post if it does tempt fate.

Hands up anyone who believes a person who's never posted on here before but presumably was a shareholder, bought 100k worth a few days ago purely on the say-so of what he read here. And now desperately wants people not to buy.

Yeah, ok.

greygeorge ,then you should consider yourself lucky in this instant as you had a small holdings , I was carried away by the extremely high yield and hyped up reading on this board chats that made me venture to apply without thinking further that DEC is a SURE BET to the road of GOLD but unfortunately this is not what I see now !!!!

FWIW Ithink LAB305 is quite more pragmatic than you give him credit for he has come round to thinking that hedging wasn’t such a bad idea and yes he has been negative but he adds a reasoned opinion

stevensuppertreader, you should have a chat with lab305. He spouts constant rubbish too. Well, him and a number of others on this board. He's probably the biggest fantasist when it comes to mythical holdings though. Although, given all the buys there's been this week, seems I'm the poor church mouse with my small amount of shares here.

We cannot have it both ways, either buy before XD for the income or after for the expected lower buy price, miss this dividend and gain future income..

But he does have a point in as much as holders in nominee accounts getting hammered up to 30% WHT, (or 15% with a W8-BEN) would get more bang for their buck with the post XD price IF it pulls back the full dividend amount as no % is withheld..

Bit of a punt on price expectations and realised prices, but I plan to have some either side and keep them for life so swings and roundabouts as they say.. ;o)

I am just being helpful and give those that follow and read these chats a full picture of DEC currently . Already I have applied so nothing I can do now but if it went back over £1.07 - I will sell my conditional alloted shares first and then wait to see whether the unconditional shares will be allotted ( likely too)and then take it from there. .

Well matey, whatever else might be said about you, I certainly give you marks for effort. All slightly odd, why try so hard to persuade people to hold off now when you claim to have bought £100k in the Open Offer?

PS the 15% WHT doesn't apply to most SIPP holders.

I don’t agree as in this case there is a 15% withholding tax so for the start, you have already lost this unless you can claim back plus if one is paying Uk tax - one also has to take this into account.
As I said, unless one is quite certain that DEC will stay around this price ie £1.05 after ex date otherwise better wait after ex div date to buy under £1

Normally, the price will drop by about the amount of the dividend as the shares go ex-dividend. Whether you buy before or after the dividend will make little difference.

Buying for dividend now is just fooling yourself unless one cannot calculate as DEC price would be reflected or discounted after ex - div date !!!!! then why buy now UNLESS ONE IS QUITE CERTAIN that DEC would stay at this level /price ie £1.05 or couple of pence either way . I am quite certain DEC will be under £1 after EX .
stevensupertrader

or buy for the dividend

My advice to others unless you are very certain that DEC will go up or stay above £1.05 from now till after ex date, just hold back from buying and buy after ex date as I am certain DEC will be discounted to reflect the dividend of 4.375cts

I am quite 99% certain looking at the weakening DEC share price after the conditional shares . Your wish will be realised after Ex -Div . !!!
