Let's hope he is right, bluemango! There are plenty here who would be keen to hoover up DEC at under £1.

Not a mischief post - I applied £100k on DEC and yesterday was allotted 62452 shares - I can see what my outcome !!! I followed DEC for awhile and can see the yield is excellent and I applied and thinking I was very lucky as not many got the opportunity due to the short window for application . Few days back , DEC went up over £1.08 and inwas very happy thinking I got the timing RIGHT but yesterday AND TODAY I begin TO HAVE COLD SWEAT !!!! Jut to tell you.

Tag, I think you'll find it was a mischievous post from our new visitor with his first ever post on here. Use of caps is a big giveaway to true intent.

Only scary if you are in DEC for short term capital gain.
Most PI in it for income /compounding divi so if share price at £1 I am OK with my compounding increasing by 5% more.

On the 28th Feb.2022 after the 2nd approval of the unconditional shares . I can see this under £1.05 and then after ex - dic on the 2nd March 2023, DEC will be under £1 . You can see lots of Selling after yesterday conditional shares being allotted . TGUS A A SCARY TIME FOR THOSE WHO APPLIED AND STILL HOLDING !!!

Your average can easily be lowered at these levels plus a benefit of higher Divi payments.

Sep purchase at 130.74p!!

#1Knocker, you raise an interesting point re what happens here between 28th Feb after the conditional shares are issued, and 02nd March when the share goes XD, and there is only 1 day in the middle, I will most put some cheeky limit orders in either side and try to mop up some if they do pull back to 101/102p, if they fill so be it, if not no worries.. ;o)

Agreed but Covid was an exceptionally rare event.

#Dovey21, you make an interesting point, but airlines buying jet1 forward is exactly why some carriers (IAG) did almost hit the wall, they were fully committed for a year in advance and could not unwind their positions when Covid hit, entire fleets were grounded, zero revenues as spot fuel prices cratered and they were stuck in their forward positions, hedging offers great protection for the seller, but on this occasion royally had the trousers down of the buyers..

#1knocker, thanks, so far so good on the strategy, but give it another 2 days to top slice some BP post XD into here for a free carry, the dates were a stroke of luck for the raise mind but I will take it all the same.. :o)

If you're here for a quick buck, you've probably made the wrong choice. DEC is a Great income with the potential for good Cap gains in the future play. Hedging : forward buying at fixed pricing. It's the reason airlines didn't go bust during the spikes.

Should not have bought at all, or your timing has proved unfortunate? There is a big difference between the two. As to the hedging, that has been done to death in numerous posts on this board. Just scroll back if you missed it.

What about those fretting over 25p per share down?

Really souldn't have bought.....still find the hedging side of the company complicated.
If someone an explain clearly I'm willing to understand, but, no sarcasm please!!

You seem to have called this one right llb. I thought the share price would recover as soon as the capital raise was ou in the open. The amount was not enormous, and it carries entitlement to the next dividend (ex d date 2/3/23. It will be vey interesting to see what happens when DEC goes ex div. Will enough shares then hit the market to take the price below 105, and if so by how much?

With the price at the present level, one would ordinarily doubt whether there is the usual incentive for those who would be paying tax on the dividend to sell ahead of the ex d date and buy back after the div comes out of the price. On the other hand, if a lot of new shares have been held to collect the dividend before selling, there could be an especially good opportunity this quarter for topping up after DEC goes ex d.

I am full already, so it is a matter of curiosity only for me, though if the price falls far enough even the most disciplined investor can be tempted .... I might bang in a really low ball limit order for a few more, just for the hell of it - I'll be happy in the unlikely event it triggers, and can congratulate myself on my portfolio discipline in the more likely event that it does not!!

Anyhow, it is 'happy days' for those building DEC holdings. In a years time, and with 3 or 4 dividends under their belts, I don't think they will be fretting over a penny or two either way on the price they paid.

#Dovey21, nothing is certain of course, but that is what I expect to see and limit orders in, the timing 28th for XD 02.03.2023 is perfect to mop up some more.. :o)

IMO we are nearly all here for the ongoing dividends any CG is the icing on the cake and a bonus, but as these are a hold for life share, it will probably never get realised if the share price did pick up..

Settlement for and admission of the 84,212,278 Firm Shares is expected to take place on or before 08.00 on 14 February 2023, settlement for and admission of the 44,231,722 Conditional Shares is expected to take place on or before 08.00 on the 28th..

I bow to your better judgment. ?...longer term should see Cap Gains but the Divi is too good to refuse.

#Dovey21, under normal circumstances I would agree on the run up to XD, however 80M shares hit the market at 105p this morning, and another 40M will also hit on 28th so we should get a second bite of the apple to tickle limit orders if needed to get filled here..

I left orders in at 105p and managed to get some on that dip. Happy to be patient and leave the order where it is.

I've added this morning. Longer term Cap Gains are welcomed but the income from the Divi is my play here. I forecast 120+ within weeks as XD approaches.

Drift down towards offer price is hardly surprising - existing holders who would normally have added in the market had an alternative, so that buying source temporarily ceased.

Given the percentage accretion to Free Cash Flow is greater than the dilution, all other things being equal you'd expect a share price recovery from here, as the yield becomes too attractive to ignore.

At current exchange rate, yield is now around 13.6%.

There we go, 105p on settlement day of 1st shares as expected, 28th for the second tranche of conditional shares, some limit orders will trigger pretty soon at or around the placing price..

BP XD 16th, have that and top slice some into here for the DEC XD too.. :o)

You need to complete one for each institution you hold shares at. However other people have reported that it seems to make little difference if the organisation is part of a bank, which Halifax is.

Hope that helps.
