I'm out for the short term... will be watching like a hawk though. CPI looks better short term imo.

Hi VT, simply a matter of margins, figures below exc central overheads.
Just my opinion. Funerals are going to become more competitive and it's a very fragmented, de-centralised market. We would get a good price for it which will help grow the Crematoria business. I am but a voice on a BB, my preference will not alter the strategic review.

Crematoria - Underlying operating profit - 2020

Q1 10.3
Q2 13.4
Q3 8.8
YTD 32.5

HY Rev £37m = £23.7 Op Profit

Funeral - Underlying operating profit - 2020

Q1 17.5
Q2 16.2
Q3 4.8
YTD 38.5

HY Rev £134m = £33.7 Op Profit

Hoping it consolidates the break out, CMA leaky as hell, I wonder if somebody has got wind of good news. Some good volume in November (all is relative)

ONS death weekly deaths out to day for the week ending 6th Nov. It was + 1,500 the five yr average. Not sure there's a bid, just the expectation this will be a bad winter (so far, the market has been v optimistic about the vaccine) and that the CMA goes away soon. Once that happens, the cost saves kick in and they can start investing in more crematoria

Hat, the funerals business makes loads of money, why would they sell it?

Not sure of a bid but I'm hoping they sell the funeral business and retain and grow the crematoria business.

Only 6 reviews on TP and COOP have 119 but don't fair that much better!

They need some decent reviews on Trustpilot
why make it easier for the competition?

Although there is no guidance, it does look like they'll do between 60-70p of earnings. It's also interesting that the bonds have traded up from 75 to 83. Bond holders will have more information than the shareholders. The runes are good!

Excess deaths for the week ending 30th Oct were 1,000. Q4 and Q1, as they cover the winter the months, are when the majority of deaths occur and the busiest trading months. As exile says, this company does not cause death.

It's a bit unpleasant here investing in death and hoping for a few pennies on the rise in infections. It's a short life indeed.

er... number of deaths stats in for 39 weeks of this year...?!

39 week 39 week period
period ended ended 27
25 September September
2020 2019 (per cent)

Underlying revenue (GBPmillion) 234.5 225.4 4

Underlying operating profit (GBPmillion) 44.2 47.9 (8)

Number of deaths 498,000 (2020) 432,000 (2019)

66,000 more deaths than for same period in 2019. That is more deaths folks

Nice update - MCAP £277m

Q3 (9mth to 25/09) uRev £234m + 4% / u Op Profit £44m -8% (Average income -£25m)

I've long said the Crematorium business supports a large MCAP (on its own). I don't know what the Strategic report is doing. Sell the Funerals business and keep the Crem's.

Funerals - Q3 uOp Profit 4.8m v 10.3m - FY £38m v £41m
Cremetoria - Q3 uOp Profit 8.8m v 8.8m - FY £32m v £29m
Cash £64m
Property Valuation £461m / alternative use £374m / Book Value £44m

The two issues over hanging the shares are the lack of CEO and the CMA. These will need to be resolved if the shares are to start shifting but hopefully that will happen in the next few months.
