Figures from the Office for National Statistics suggest that England and Wales registered 20,823 more deaths than the five-year average in the past 18 weeks over the last four months. Only 11,531 deaths involved Covid. It means that around 45 per cent of recent deaths were related to other causes. They are at a loss to the cause...

Really... Try looking at the mRNA vaccines causing chaos among the young regarding myocarditis and other ischemic heart diseases. 108 young athletes have died in the last nine months and just the start, sadly. Not good for humanity, great for DTY

vaccine-related deaths will put a rocket under this one. 10000 extra non-covid deaths have filled the mortuaries in the past 18 weeks in the UK alone.

Very odd. I just checked the bonds and they are being offered above 100, having traded at 75p 15 months ago. Debt tends to be a better predictor of bad news. The death rate has increased with Covid no longer appearing to be the main driver and that should help the shares.

Nope, just got 1 share, so it appears in my HL holdings list - have noticed the gradual but accelerating fall. This seems to be happening to a number of shares I follow, otherwise unrelated. Bit of a ditching of a lot of UK FTSE250 and below stocks.

Quite the plunge - now at support level from Summer.

The trouble I have with this investment is the lack of dividend return. I completely see it's resilience to any economy downturn, but I would expect good dividends.

There doesn't seem to be any indications of a return and even a few years ago when they did pay one, the levels were very modest.

Who knows when and if that will change, but mgt need to signal it clearly before I will be tempted to invest. Owning a share that is run purely for the benefit of employees and bond holders seems pointless!

Unloved and will remain so until big news, where's the Crem listing ? But this is really a long term hold and add on weakness play

This was interesting from the statement:

"This reporting period includes a few weeks of trading with our new pricing, where we have launched competitively priced funeral services in the UK to truly lower the cost of dying for families, but it is still too early to judge and extrapolate the overall effect. Our average revenue per funeral has fallen, and volumes have risen as we expected, but coming as this does at a time of an elevated death rate it is still not possible to apportion the element of that growth that potentially could be attributed to market share, in part because the time between death and funeral has moved in reaction to that volume rise."

If the reduced price strategy works, this will take off. The market loves an easy to understand growth story!

To quote New Labour, things can only get better, but it will take time. Management know that it was run by a bunch of accountants with a spreadsheet and know the estate needs a major refresh and plenty on building a culture which attracts good, empathetic staff. Govt deciding that we should aim for "herd immunity" will help earnings short term but longer term growth will come from a better managed business.

I'd ignore the IC. There is so much self help to drive earnings and market share. As with all turn arounds, it will take time and patience.

Just read that spudders..They're always very down on DTY. There are some less thank accurate facts too..Market Valuations is reported at £1.8bn rather than the £350m it is actually (50m shares in issue @700p).They don't mention the operating cash flow of £56m ( £22m net of financing costs).Yes there was a £50m fair value adjustment, which I did miss, just goes to show you really need to read the fine print !

HY Net cash from operating activities - £22m, MCAP £372m

No news on the Crematorium divestment

Q2 operating performance significantly down on Q1 - Funerals 9.4 v 22.2 Crem 10.6 v 14.6

Deaths down 30% 136k v 204k

I expect we'll wobble along until the Q3 numbers.

Good rns today. Cautiously optimistic is my reading, next 6 months will be key to providing platform for future. Timing of COVID deaths messing up comparatives
