07/6/2018 13:45 | "...we have moved to unannounced inspections in all the cutting plants on a regular basis.” It will now monitor the plants remotely via CCTV cameras, which are set to be upgraded this month. Clearly not 'cleared' then! | glavey

24/5/2018 20:50 | Excellent post vicarage; but what a shambles it portrays re HQ production and the 2 most recently opened shops. JVs first priority surely has to be getting out to the underperforming shops; possibly even hold the expansion if your visits to Wigan and Leicester are representative of day to day operations there. There has been a warehouse operative position(s) at Hellaby advertised on CRAWs website for a little while now. This part of the website rarely seems to be updated; though it's still showing factory shop manager(s) and assistant shop manager(s) for the Leicester area?? | mcmather

24/5/2018 19:43 | Responsibility of some of the mess must rest with the selection board for agreeing to appoint NC. I have seen him in presentation and yes, he is very good but what about the bigger picture? I do feel some sympathy for him because he was over his head and I think he knew that very early on. This was clear by some of the decisions made. I see Jim has worked at Asda and I hope he does well for the business, but my concern for him and the company is his lack of experience in the top flight of management. Being the Head of a dept at Asda is impressive and some experience in the meat trade, but that is not going to prepare him for CEO level responsibilities. I hope I am wrong and Jim is the right man for the job. | pophead
24/5/2018 00:06 | Up until he retired, Fergie was in complete control of all player comings and goings at Old Trafford. The players knew he was THE BOSS. David Moyes - some call him 'Dithering Davey' - followed Fergie in to United but wasn't decisive in that first transfer window to the extent that United signed Fellani just before the window closed and for an amount far in excess of his perceived value. The CLUB needed to make a signing that window. It was a subtle difference - the club essentially informing the manager that they needed to sign a player not vice versa - and the players immediately picked up on this. The boss was no longer THE BOSS. Moyes had already lost the dressing room. Moyes' first major involvement proved to be a fatal one. NC joined CRAW tasked with overseeing a rapid expansion. He put the staff in place for a much larger business but when turnover did not support such a staff. Costs went up and history shows what happened to the LFL sales thereafter. From visiting stores you could see morale began to deteriorate and staff became far less happy. Sales worsened, more demand / pressure appears to have been placed on shop floor staff and some of the higher calibre staff went elsewhere; remember the 'featured employees' page from the website?? It quickly became a vicious circle. NC's first major involvement proved to be a fatal one. | mcmather
24/5/2018 00:05 | iniesta, re the above and #6433; are you able to name the shops in question? | mcmather
23/5/2018 22:37 | When NC went to the city and had them eating from the palm of his hand and the share price was 80p plus he was amazing and the best thing ever now it's gone pop he's a clown??? I bet if you dig deep it's minimum 70% the staffs fault they are in this mess it's so easy to point the finger at one individual. The most recent store I visited was absolutely filthy there was a Xmas table cloth covering a table on the shop floor it's May????? Did NC put it there no there were 5 in the queue 1 guy was serving and the other member of staff was texting for at least 10 full minutes that I was there also on the shop floor is that NCs fault to no I drove past a factory store only to see a crawshaw van in the customer car park then I saw a butcher in an apron getting out of his car in the customer car park I mean how hard is this to get right there's 8-10 spaces for customers and the staff use them up did NC tell them to park there to no they need to stop looking at everybody else and start looking at themselves and until that happens no 1 man will ever turn this around | 1iniesta
23/5/2018 19:27 | Hygiene standards will not improve until staff moral improves. That can only happen if they are incentivised. When I first worked for Crawshaws moral was booming and the food hygiene standards was good. Introduce a career development path for staff and most will aim towards it. Get some good quality food hygiene training for staff and staff will feel empowered and take pride in their own shop. Salary increases work to a point but team bonding is needed. Give them targets to achieve with something valuable to them at the end of it e.g. bonus scheme. | pophead
23/5/2018 13:39 | I don't. I'd be more concerned if NC was still at the helm. But he's gone. | mcmather
23/5/2018 13:36 | One of the biggest issues is that all of the new stores would have been awarded 5* before the store was even a month old with 5*s come an 18-24 month revisit I fear the worst | 1iniesta
23/5/2018 11:50 | They should never have changed things, but I am hopeful the Chairman will help us back on our feet and perhaps we might see the return of Mr Boyd to help strengthen the management team. | playful |
