Superslick, I imagine this is just opportunistic nonsense then

Superslickrick10 - but then they have unneccessary layers of management plus a vastly overpaid board so any savings are more than offset by the bloatedness of a big firm.

I can't see going 'back to basics' will work myself, the placing looks like an emergency sticking plaster rather than a turnaround plan.

Typo...In my view selling off the mortgage arm would be a bad move unless the sell off was structured in a way that enabled the "new" mortgage company to still work with CWD.
Many of their brokers are based across their branches with each broker covering 2 or more branches!

As far as I can see, there are no lock up restrictions on the 'lucky 3'. or have I missed that somewhere in the prospectus?

There wouldn't be enough stock available to short ahead of listing.

It will be very interesting if a property slump now could take this to the placing price .... of 10p

The price where only a lucky 3 were allowed to load up

Will any of the lucky 3 load down ?

Are any of them loading down already ?

Will they load back up some more at 10p ?

Yes mallorca 9, very strong institutional backing, but at 10p. I'd buy at 10p.

Superslick, I get the 'in tamden' argument, so I take it if bits do get broken off (e.g. mortgage broking) you'll consider that a bad move?

Yes hillofwad, £115m of the £129m being raised is being used to reduce debt. That will trim about £5m per year off bank interest payments. The remaining £14m will be used for "general corporate purposes, including to provide additional working capital".

ITCM1...Also the reason why those bigger companies have an edge over the smaller agencies is the discount that it can generate through suppliers such as Rightmove, Zoopla, Ravensworth, Jupix etc.

When CWD finally sort all that out then it will no doubt be making chunky profits again.

Interesting contributions here. Having no expert knowledge, the part I struggle with is this: if they can't make s profit when the housing market has been incredibly bouyant, how will they fare in a slowdown???

To me it looks like they are caught in the headlights of a structural change rather than a mis-step from the company. It is hard to see the cross selling being effective going forward as the vast majority will use brokers and the price comparison sites.

Foxtons seem to be in the same boat and it could simply be that there isn't much money to be made from estate agency anymore. It may be better suited to small business rather than these big groups.

Very strong institutional backing though, and good to see debt being reduced.

Superslick I think you have misinterpreted my post .My point exactly any self respecting brand, individual under the CWD umbrella will want to dissociate themselves from the CWD brand and the hopeless ,helpless and hapless BODS who are very much still there Time to go in whatever form

No doubt the shrewdies at BTW Shiells in Belfast will be rubbing their hands who have been bought out not once by twice by CWD in its various guises .Banked a couple of big fat cheques and bought themselves back each time for a bag of nuts

I'm with Smithless above …
maybe some pruning back but then strong growth.
The staff whom I dealt with … Countrywide mortgage broker & Bridgfords Estate Agents, appeared to be very motivated in their work.
I was very impressed.
Countrywide Mortgages (Brokerage) knocked spots off L&C.

Hillofwad...you keep saying that agents will leave in there droves because they dont want to be associated with CWD, yet I do not know one agent who feels that they are an employee of CWD per se, more they work for a brand such as Hamptons, Bairstow Eves, Taylors etc. Why would they have an issue with CWD, hardly anyone of them holds shares?

You really are barking up the wrong tree with this. I'm currently short by the way.

Difficult to believe a placing was done at 175p 16 mths ago! The company is being kitchened sinked, with previous stakeholders being virtually wiped out. This is a start again position. Expect asset disposals to further reduce debt and a rebuild of confidence from here. Interesting recovery position IMHO

Furthermore I envisage that this time next year CWD will be a very different beast with most of your friends peeling off with the brands putting clear water between themselves and those who run CWD

Hopefully that is now in the past.
I've recently been quite impressed in my dealings with Countrywide/ Bridgfords/ Precise Mortgages.

Superslick There certainly are some very good people who work there and some of the brands are exemplar some very expensive talent brought in .who had run successful buinesses

It makes it even more baffling that the inept set of BODS decided to by-pass them and go outside the industry to recruit and look how that turned out? I can assure you many at CWD were not impressed ,plenty have gone and certainly plenty at LSH who are in discussions elsewhere

Which bit of " loss of experienced and trusted professionals"don't you understand ?

Bantam175...Purplebricks "stole a march" on the WHOLE industry by lying and conning there way to winning instructions. PB is a dead duck that will never make money or pay a dividend...EVER.

Hillofwad....Putting your views across and denegrating some 10,000 people who work at that company are two different things. I know some very good people at CWD, some very good friends, so to say that no "self respecting person will work there" is just wrong and has no reason to be brought up.

Made money on this years ago but can't see any upside now.

How did management let the likes of purplebricks steal a march on them?

No way back now imo.
