Market cap not £1,224m per the header?

Although quick look at the results - 293m shares (or thereabouts) does give your number.

Got me wondering...

Market cap now £950m - market spooked on the change in a few months quite rightly but underlying business is great. I'm a buyer here.

Markets so ridiculously focused on short term trends - yes markets have been very very quiet for the last couple of months and earnings are obviously going to be lower while this persists. This does not mean the company is worth 20% less because a quiet couple of months - share price should reflect long term earnings potential.

My biggest issue is that I no longer trust management to update in the market in a timely and accurate manner.

Tell a lie - I still own 1 share in my HL account; I do that with a few shares as I want live prices at all times. 325 on the bid..

£250m op profit, £200m after tax, maybe £180m in future (tax rate higher). Market cap £1,224m.

But the issue is what is the steady state profitability - if there even is one?

My frustration is that I think they must have known about this downward trend for ages.

It's not just the softened projections that will do the damage today - it's the suspicion it arouses of dishonesty in guidance. That (loss of trust) can colour perceptions long after the numbers come good.

Not a holder (have been) but I can't help wondering if there are large numbers of their clients currently underwater with the likes of FRES, POLY, BP., HSBA and a number of FTSE large caps - all waiting for better times.

Would certainly explain the volatility, and I know my trading frequency (with HL) has plunged in recent months - a battle to get to the 20 trades a month for the £5.95 fees instead of higher...

That is probably about 30p eps so this could well drop to below 300p.

Last "positive" update was 29 July: ".. the Board remains confident in achieving net operating income in excess of £330 million for FY 2022".

Could the company not see market conditions were likely to soften? Huge change in guidance from only a month ago...

Oof! bit of a disguised profit warning there - OI forecast to be 250m, down from the 330m forecast in June.

The fundamentals are still strong here but the market hasn’t liked cmcx since early April. Not even a heafty dividend could coax in any buyers.

Struggled to 4.24 yesterday before the selling kicked in, the buying enthusiasm is underwhelming.

RCturner2 - it’s not the market saying it’s going to be lower, CMC said so
themselves in the half year results. The pandemic created a lot of new clients for CMC but going forward they are hoping to hold onto what they have and possibly build going forwards. The market hasn’t liked this uncertainty for months and the chart doesn’t look good at all.

I do agree though, the fundamentals here are good and they are going to be generating more profit and revenue than pre pandemic levels. They pay a healthy dividend too. I think the trading statement in October is going to have to be a good one to turn this one around but I might have been stopped out here before then
