17/10/2006 15:29 | Operating loss of c. £5.5 - £6m for the last six months. Selling space now ten per cent lower. The Chairman is wrong when he refers to Clinton as a brand. It is not a brand. Louis Vuitton is a brand. They have it all to this winter and CC. just isn't a destination store. Yours etc., | handycam
17/10/2006 14:11 | Does anybody know how many stores they own and how many are rented? The figures suggest that they have managed to exit a large number of stores without excessive penalty which is surprising (to me anyway) | wavering
17/10/2006 13:11 | Todays results not that convincing and MBO denied , yet price continues upwards.Presumably on strength of July figures up.Am I missing something...? Just sold at 69.3 - quick 15%.OK may be further to go but I shall sell and regret... | wad collector
09/10/2006 11:47 | My local shop EMPTY. Nearly ALWAYS; two assistants and very heavy high street overheads. Tells me something - Christmas coming but cards will be EVERYWHERE and mostly cheaper than CC. Pity 'cos I like the look of the chart but not convinced by trading. | philjeans
09/10/2006 11:10 | Can't do anything with this one until the statement. | handycam
07/10/2006 12:45 | Worth looking at again - pushing on towards, and hopefully through, long-term resistance levels. Stll has c.8% of stock on loan (and a lot bigger % of the free float) which suggests there's a good number of bears to squeeze if we do break through. Haven't got any visibility as to why Clints might post surprisingly good news soon but then again all the bad news has been assumed... A risky one to buy but worth condsidering for the racy end of the portfolio? DYOR etc but I'm in. | onehandeconomist
04/9/2006 12:45 | At last the "Birthdays" in Letchworth has just closed - turning into a Costa Coffeee shop-first coffee chain in the area. There is still a Clinton Cards left. Finally a bit of savings (rent, even if not wages). There were too many card shops in Letchworth. As regards Press comment, if the view is that all will come good at the end of Clintons 18-month year, now (up until Christmas) would seem an opportune moment to get this company on the cheap! Buyers normally wait until its obvious as the nose on your face, thats why they might want to await Christmas sales (in general). | mikeatwork22
01/9/2006 13:40 | Thought I would add something I have read in Telegraph: ".... Clinton Cards ended its recent surge, dropping 2½ to 61½p. Some dealers had speculated that the retailer's days of independence could be numbered, although others suggested that trading at its Birthdays chain was better than expected." Interesting... | selftaught
31/8/2006 10:30 | Well, they're definitely testing that resistnce level today. The shares are up 45% in three weeks. Interestingly CC themselves have made no comment. No stock exchange announcements, nada. Curious. Volumes, other than at the start of the August rally aren't huge either. Would seem to support bear squeeze theory. Would be nice to get some guidance from the company though. | onehandeconomist
30/8/2006 21:13 | The americans are in it for the longer term IMHO. My position remains the same as when I last spoke to Mr Browne. Very dull and unexciting business but stable, as long as they really don't mess up then they should have the ability to deliver. When is another question! | scripophilist
30/8/2006 09:43 | Looks like a classic short squeeze to me. At the start of this rally some 11% of the stock was on loan. Given that another 26% is not in Crest, this means that a lot of the free float was on loan. Usually a sign that its been heavily shorted. US Fund turns up and buys a chunk, shorts get squeezed, stock jumps. If so, question is will our American friends bail out for a quick turn or simply use their entry point to jump start performance on a longer term holding? I'd love it to be the latter - I bought in too early on the way down. But, I'm not sure. The dividend is illusory. The Lewins would need to show real progress and they're a bit late delivering. Technically, there looks like a big wodge of resistance in the share price in the higher 60's too. But, they are trying to fix the problems, they do know the market, and loads of bad news is priced in already. Speculative hold for me. Any views? | onehandeconomist
29/8/2006 19:00 | The thing I like about Clinton Cards is the idea that you get some paper cardboard and ink for a few pence and sell a greeting card for a quid or two, which then gets thrown away.I hate buying greeting cards because they are such a rip-off so I thought lets buy some of the company to get my money back!Seem to have a solid market share so I'm in! | wad collector
18/8/2006 14:50 | These US funds aren't that clever. They might regret buying that 10%. | handycam
16/8/2006 22:02 | More shrewd buying I see. | scripophilist
15/8/2006 09:41 | year end has passed and we now await the 18 month annual figure --- from april update when overall sales were down (clinton down and birthdays up -- net down) and summer usually being a loss making period what should we expect ?? the important part will be the accompanying statement which should give us a clue about stook levels, current trading, and more importantly how costs are being contained | bigboyo
03/8/2006 17:55 | There are now many many ladies making their own cards now. My wife does and there are 10 at least in our road who do the same. THIS IS A BIG SUPPLIER:- | washbrook
03/8/2006 10:03 | Well that can't be good. | handycam

16/6/2006 16:18 | mikeatwork blocks out competition !! -- some towns have more than 2 ! | bigboyo
16/6/2006 12:54 | Ahhh missed it....the 50p... I was in 'Birthdays' & 'Clinton Cards' a week or so ago and cards were not as good as another card shop I went into (Card Warehouse I believe). Card Warehouse was better lit, had more cards in the area I was looking for (blank) and just seemed a 'nicer experience'. Why must Clintons have 2 card shops in the same precinct? [Letchworth] Clinton - must try harder. [sell down to 50p] | mikeatwork22 |
