IC retains a Buy rating on CKN: strong forward order book, healthy balance sheet and forward p/e of 14 versus 5 year average in excess of 20.

Well I pushed my limit buy a little too far yesterday and missed it by 1p! Taken off again today, suspect some broker attention and probably an article in IC tomorrow.

Agree both, it seems JPMorgan has cut CKN to neutral from overweight price target 3740 from 4050

Well this drop looks like a buying opportunity, hard to fathom the market sometimes.

Not really - the market is still paying scant attention. That's a very modest rise on a stonking set of results. The multiples are modest to say the least.

Very, very attractive investment imho.

Indeed, big rise in profits. The market is beginning to notice.

Hopefully a decent divi increase as well. Struggle to understand why Braemar in the same industry is trading on such a low valuation. Might get some upside after Monday's results

dh - despite the tremendous performance since building my initial position back in 2000, have found it very difficult over the years to generate interest in Clarkson specifically and the shipping and ports industry more generally.

Put it down to the boom and bust nature of the sector.

Aside from a short period in 2007/8 when on gut feeling fortuitously liquidated my entire portfolio around 3 months prior to the GFC, Clarkson has been a core holding since 2000.

With the latest shipping/commodity market cycle still in its early stages, remain very confident the longstanding £100 Clarkson share price target I have on company by 2025/26 will be achieved.

Clarkson has been the unrivalled leader of their sector for 25 years and I would not be surprised if that remains the case for decades longer.

Weird how few people even look at this seriously under-rated £1bn company in a strong growth position. Should outperform for years to come under any reasonable scenario.

No rush - it's staying in my portfolio for the foreseeable future!

Strong today and that was a sit up and take notice closing auction! 27,420 shares at 32.20, above the 4.30 closing price.

A big buyer for sure, but is it more than that?

Agreed. I bought some on the close. HSBC may have reduced from buy to hold but Peel Hunt has CKN as a strong buy. I think the downside is limited to about 40-50 ticks unless there's a market wipeout.

I've had clarkson stock more on than off over the last 20 years. The £40 level at the time was way overvalued in my opinion I would say about £35 now is fair value, shipbroking is volatile Cracking company

What a nice brief quiet TU.;

Clarkson PLC, the world's leading provider of integrated shipping services, today announces that following strong trading throughout the final quarter, particularly from the Broking division, results for the year ending 31 December 2022, are now anticipated to be ahead of current market expectations.

Clarksons' underlying profit before tax, subject to audit, is now expected to be not less than GBP98m.

Checking the last 5 yrs figures , that £98M figure is well above all of them. Surely this deserves a rerating? It is still well below the £41 peak of 2021.

A good RNS from CKN today and no comment. The quiet BB's are often the best it seems.

Well that has been a good 3 months here but bit of a correction today , not sure quite why it dropped £2.
Maybe because their Asian chief quit , but somehow doubt he is worth that much.

Managed to add some at 2647. I think that in a few yrs time this will have been a bargain; can't see the business going down the tubes and the World's container shipping needs seem to have a secure future .

zoom - thanks - Dr Dre mentioned it too on my JSE thread. BDAY now more closely mirrors the movement of the BDI than its early days.

Russian oil embargo - 'If 1m barrels a day of refined products shifted to double-distance voyages as a result of sanctions, that would increase tanker utilisation by 6% to 7%' Clarkson Securities said this week.

This would put the sector in a capacity supply deficit and send charter rates northward bound.

>>Unfortunately, still yet to find an investment service provider that offers a direct trade on the BDI. >>

I looked at this a couple of years back. AMEX:BDRY was the best candidate I could find: it matches BDIY:IND reasonably well, but by no means perfectly. I'm afraid I can't remember now whether I could trade it with my broker.

Baltic Dry Index(BDI) measures the cost of shipping dry commodities in bulk - has dropped 71% since mid may and 83% over the last 11 months - largely the result of the ongoing impact of China's zero-COVID policy, which has led to long lockdowns in major cities, and the suspension of operations in factories, businesses and ports.

Despite bulk carrier shipbroking representing only a relatively modest percent of Clarkson's (CKN) revenue, the share price has followed the trend of the BDI since last October.

As mentioned previously, when the BDI is on a falling trend, Clarkson's valuation invariably falls in lockstep - completely disregarding the wider revenue diversity fundamentals of the business.

Long shipping market history has shown buying specialist bulk carrier owner/operators and Clarkson's when the BDI is below 1,000, and especially when its below 500, is invariably a very smart move, as at that level the daily vessel operating cost(before any provision for finance interest payments and statutory maintenance and drydockings), is higher than the revenue earned.

Mentioned at the time in Advfn posts that if I could find a City service provider that would let me go long on the BDI when it was around the lows of 296 and 448 in 2016 and 2020 respectively, I would cash in my entire investment portfolio and put in into a BDI long position. Despite Zero Hedge suggesting the opposite in articles at the time, the BDI subsequently went up by 405% and 1050% respectively over the following 18 months or so. While Clarkson's share price went up by 88% and 93% respectively over the same periods.

Unfortunately, still yet to find an investment service provider that offers a direct trade on the BDI. Clarkson's probably offers the best low risk alternative for exposure to the movement of the BDI, for those uncomfortable with the elevated risk of an individual shipping company investment.

That may well be a sensible policy , wish I went there 3 months ago!
Difficult to keep up with inflation in cash though; couple of percent . But won't risk a 9 % loss in one day like here though.
Tempted to buy some here in the morning myself.
