If banks start putting all these companies in trouble into administration, surely then the banks will be looking for government bailouts.

Simple, it's a different country with a different government. I'm not saying there will be no help, just probably not enough to save this debt burdened mess. Why risk investing here when there are so.many better so called 'cheap' companies with much less debt and of more value to the country.

Why should a cinema in Germany get all the support it needs, but not here?

We can afford it, if Germany can. Printing money doesn't cost the taxpayer, and wont be inflationary in a recession or slow down. And it's normal to print new money when you lend.

Shops, hotels, airlines, gyms, pubs and restaurants face ruin if told to close. They all contribute to the economy- keeping the money circulating, paying for health and other critical things.

If you let 20% of economy die, the other 80% will then suffer because they have less custom. So it's critical to keep the retail, hospitality and leisure industries going. Especially if we are talking about a temporary problem as virus eventually subsides.

Really if cineworld was the only company losing money cos of corona, I'd see no action. But the problem is so big that its going to need drastic action.

And worst of all, if Boris doesn't get busy, economy will grind to halt and he's not going to get re-elected.;)

It all comes down to the value of the business to the country, as it's our money. When the Canada deal is complete how much of the business is here and how much in the US and Canada?. How critical is a cinema business to the taxpayer ?. The government cannot bail out all companies to the amount needed here. Some hard choices to be made !

UK Government are Tories, they are unlikely buy a stake in anything. Government owning businesses is like socialism.

But there's other things. The German government is offering unlimited credit to ALL companies. Even cinemas! I bet a refinance at cheap rates would go down a storm at Cineworld Towers .

And German government are offering the opportunity to defer billions in tax.

It's not credible that government would let like maybe half of business go bust without doing EVERYTHING possible to prevent that.

It won't be last move by fed. Germany has promised unlimited business loans. I can't predict exactly what action UK will take, but they will make significantly moves to help business hurt by coronavirus. Absolutely no doubts.
