I have notice the rise started since news of disgruntled
small stake holders landlord started boarding up
UK Leicester square operation, in disgust at the plan deal

hopefully a change in stance from lenders& BOD toward
shareholders coming, to get this badly needed $2.6b rights issue
over the line to sort out the rent

Yep it's probably 25 idiots gone long at £1000/pt against each shorter at £25,000 a point. I think I know who will make 25K on that bet.

They have been told by cineworld that they, as shareholders, will be wiped out if cineworld's restructuring plans succeed. More fool them.

What if it’s the 1000s of employees and unlimited members who are gambling ?
These people are more familiar to what is actually going on ? People who love movies and not just money ?

Williamcooper104 - "It’s the market cap when your desired position is a huge percentage of the market cap"

This is my last response on this subject. Lets use your example. Lets say the market cap is £1,000,000 and you wanted a position of £900,000 that's 90% of the market cap. In order to take such a position you will need to borrow 90% of the shares.

You see it still all boils down to the number of shares available to borrow not the size of your desired position.

Finished.

Pwhite73, what is the maximum amount of money that you can make shorting a company with a mcap of £14 Million? Has the penny dropped yet? It is not worth institutions bothering with, that is what wc104 is saying.

Werethere. They are gambling, not listening to anyone but hoping. If you want a huge gamble, with a very high risk, but potentially huge profits you should look at a company like GKP.

Wc104 - The FCA requests you declare the percentage of the total shares you have shorted up to and over 0.50% not the size of your position. It goes without saying if you attempt to take a position of £100 million and the company has a market cap of only £1 million you will run into problems. It is the amount of stock available to borrow that determines the ability to short not the market cap.

It's not the number of shares It's if you want to put on a £5m position you are going to have personally shorted 30-40 percent of the market cap

It has everything to do with the market cap. Werethere, as you should already know the boxofficemojo figures have historically been a good indicator of Cineworld's dreadful US performance over the last few years. It was cineworld who entered chapter 11 bankruptcy protection because they were running out of cash. It is common that shareholders are wiped out when companies fail with debts exceeding (tangible) assets.
