Chinese cinemas did better than the US in 2020. It is a shame that cineworld does not have a presence in China.
Cineworld declared a loss of $1,644.7 Million (before tax) in the first 6 months of 2020. The adjusted loss was $567.7 Million (before tax). The full year 2020 results on Thursday will be very interesting.

Cinemas have recently opened again in China and attracted several hundred million viewers during the first two months a record breaking attendance generating revenue of approximately $2.3 billion. People need an escape from what they have endured this last year and the cinema appears to be an ideal way to do it.

The are announcing figures, I reckon it will be one of those
type of announcements where the figures are bad due to lockdown
etc etc but a little positive forward news and 150p.

dyor high risk.

Big comment in citywire, stating cine best performer 350 stock
since November. Results will be poor as all know and the same for
most entertainment companies this year. But with the big films
coming out thick and fast hopefully soon, the good times could be
around the corner.

The tangible NAV per share is of interest because it highlights that Cineworld's assets include $5,106.8 Million of intangible goodwill. Cineworld's debt rating is non investment grade for a reason.
Yes I agree that the EV is of interest to a potential buyer of cineworld, the extra debt that cineworld has taken on in 2020 is, as you know, included in the EV increasing the cost for any buyer.
We had the retail PI speculation in 2020 before the reopening with the Tenet movie, the share price soon retreated after tenet did not live up to expectations in the US and cineworld closed the cinema's again when bond was postponed. Now we have the Jangho stake and vaccines in addition to the reopening. Cineworld need to achieve pre covid revenues very quickly to avoid the need to raise extra liquidity.

Most hedge funds aren't really hedge funds - many do take directional short positions - often with other directional longs So a lot of the shorters are just short Cine - there's less shorting in general after game shop as collateral requirements have gone up Not sure if the tangible book value is really that relevant I find the EV interesting - and it's going to get to the same value as was pre-covid if the share price keeps rallying

That's is what is happening hence the share price rises and this will continue as long as shorters are closing which they will be.

They will have to close the shorts otherwise the loss they make will out weigh the complete profit on the hedge. Pointless transaction otherwise if one cancels out the other.

There is pent up demand to go on holiday and go the pub and sit outside in a beer garden. Not too sure about the demand to go and sit in a movie theater on a nice sunny day or warm summer evening.
Also the argument with the shorters is fundamentally flawed. Most hedge fund shorters will have hedged the risk with a call option on the futures market. It is after all in the name HEDGE fund. No big losses to be expected there.
It is interesting that the tangible net asset value per share is less than zero. i.e. tangible assets are less than the debt. This is due to the amount of goodwill that cineworld is carrying as assets on it's balance sheet.

Yes their argument was to sit at home with their vulgar
sized tv's and not go out, really.

Yes Millennium Investor, that was a top up of a short position.

Shorters must really be hurting now huge losses for them. For anyone who does an ounce of research will realise the pent up demand is there for the public to return to a normal way of living and the cinema is part of that. No point sitting watching the share price go up everyday got to get a piece of the action to make a profit. £1.80 will come before we know it.

Wasn’t there a dude who started shorting at £1.10? He hasn’t said he closed at a loss so assume his short is still open, ouch
