04/11/2015 15:53 | DebbiegeeThanks for the link, but I must be thick, because I am still not sure whether a tax loss has been achieved. For example, if I had bought 100,000 shares at 20.24p in 2014 and then sold them now at 15.24p I would have made a loss of £5,000, which I could use to offset capital gains on other assets. If instead of selling them I used the bed and ISA facility, buying and selling almost at once, then it was my understanding that there would not be a loss/gain as you had not actually lost possession of the shares.People used to use a 'bed and breakfast' service at year end to sell and then buyback their shares some years ago, to generate tax gains/losses, but I think it was Gordon Brown who put a stop to that saying they would become treated as a continuous possession if bought back within a month. That is why you see some shares dip around the end of February beginning of March as people sell to buy back a month or so later. If a bed and ISA can be used to create a loss, then that is handy to know. Thanks again. | daddy warbucks
04/11/2015 14:56 | There is a Bed and Isa facility. Maybe better to declare loss here to offset gains elsewhere and be in a better position taxwise for chl profits [hopefully] | debbiegee
04/11/2015 14:32 | Bones,I understand some aspects of capital gains and using a loss to offset such gains, but I am a bit confused how someone could do that here. If they sell shares at a loss, yes, but if they re-buy them straight away (within a month I think), then doesn't the tax man count them as a continuous hold.? Does putting them into an is a change that? | daddy warbucks
04/11/2015 14:17 | Perhaps they intend to create a capital loss (re: Capital Gains Tax) outside the ISA and don't see it going lower than this? | bones30
04/11/2015 14:15 | Interesting trades. Someone appears to have put their shares into an ISA. When you do the Sums, the shares bought at 18.54p equals £15233. The ISA limit is £15240. Make of it what you will, but why do it in November, when you have 5 more months to use it? | daddy warbucks
04/11/2015 12:30 | I agree rossamon but at some point before ISCID announce their findings it could become clear to both parties who have lost. If ROI have lost and feel like they have no chance they could reopen talks with an urgency and with a face saving story for an OOC before any announcement. | debbiegee
04/11/2015 12:27 | My own point of view is that is quite quick, and he is assuming CHL win the stage at present. Which is the most interesting part of what has been posted.Depending on who the source was. | fidra
04/11/2015 11:56 | That would be nice PB01! I'm in at an average just under 31p! | frak
04/11/2015 11:53 | Andy, a lawyer I'm guessing. | bones30
04/11/2015 11:43 | So It's a slam dunk certainty that he THINKS it will take a long time? Andy 4 Nov'15 - 11:09 - 24228 of 24231 0 0 He does not think there will be a quick resolution, but that is clearly only his opinion. | p@
04/11/2015 11:37 | p@, He didn't say "may". And he is not "top secret", just well informed and close to the action, but I'm not revealing his identity for reasons that even you can probably work out! Tell who you like, I'm just putting it out there as I happened to be in the right place at the right time, and spoke to someone relevant. | andy
04/11/2015 11:34 | Sorry Andy, even if true, by posting what you have posted, you have left yourself looking a little foolish. | daddy warbucks
04/11/2015 11:20 | Top secret informant reveals settlement MAY take a long time.......LOL WOW-tell the FSA. | p@
04/11/2015 11:00 | Andy, Maybe you can at least confirm that if settlement is likely to take 1 to 2 years does this mean that CHL & ROI are not involved in meaningful OOC settlement talks. I wouldnt expect to know the name of your informant but 'his/her' proximity to the action would be helpful, we can all then consider this information in context with the information or disinformation that is already available. | theorb
04/11/2015 10:32 | So you're just spreading unconfirmed rumours. Like my friends aunt. | p@
04/11/2015 10:18 | An informed view!- by whom?........LOL Give us a name. | p@
04/11/2015 10:11 | p@ 4 Nov'15 - 09:23 - 24221 of 24222 3 0 If you're not willing to say who it is,why mention it? ------- In case anyone is interested is having an informed view from a relevant person! Simples! | andy
04/11/2015 10:05 | Yes agree Frak. OOC prior to the ICSID hearing results is a strong possibility. We could be looking as soon as late Nov or early Dec. Any OOC would have to be north of 150p-200/share in my view to have any chance of getting accepted. | pb01
04/11/2015 09:36 | You'd think the ROI would have to make a decision pretty soon on the occ settlement otherwise it could cost them a great deal more if they lose the hearing! Judging by other related issues (i.e. Freeport Mining) they seem unable to decide quickly about anything (ministers arguing in public with each other!) | frak
04/11/2015 09:23 | If you're not willing to say who it is,why mention it? | p@
04/11/2015 08:46 | p@, But they probably weren't as close to the action as the person I spoke to! It's not about "importance", it's about relevance! Let's just leave it there, believe me or not, up to you, it doesn't make any difference to me. | andy |
