Peaeff,

I feel obliged to come to Ian's defence - the last comment in my post was my personal view rather than a further comment from Ian. I Apologise for any confusion.

I am a holder but I must admit that my finger is hovering over the sell button at present as even Tim Cobbold, the CEO, is cautious about the short term "We enter the new financial year with an order book at record levels led by
Industrial Systems, but remain cautious about the short term." A record order book yet still cautious - that leads me to belive that things have become much tougher since YE.

In addition, I do think that there is a bid premium in the shareprice which will slowly dissipate over time if the likelihood of a bid reduces. In my view a bid unlikely in the short term as Emerson already have enough problems of their own without introducing the added complexity of acquiring and consolidating a rival.

I'm happy to be proved wrong of course and I'll see how the next few days pan out.

Imho The up side for chloride is very good,As a whole I personally think that the economy is picking up.Perhaps Ian Robertson should justify his comments & tell us Where his magical Chrystal ball comes from That can predict the future & can He tell me how well my own business will be doing Next Year ?,I supply to the construction industry & have a full order book My profit has also increased every year for the last 27 years.(this year by 25%) AS i have said before not every company is doing badly, companies can survive a down turn ,You Just need a good team behind you And adjust you overheads to suite.(which Chloride have)

They could just need a new analyst

'People do worry that Chloride is late-cycle ...' said analyst Ian Robertson at Seymour Pierce."

In other words - there's still a slight chance I may have been right all along

"I think that the downside is limited but so too, it seems, is the upside. Unless Emerson decide to bid of course."

In other words - this will vindicate me in case I was totally wrong.

Perhaps this helps to explain the rather muted response to what I consider to be a cracking set of results.

"Analysts highlighted the late cycle nature of Chloride's business and said prices could come under pressure. 'People do worry that Chloride is late-cycle ...' said analyst Ian Robertson at Seymour Pierce."

I think that the downside is limited but so too, it seems, is the upside. Unless Emerson decide to bid of course. :-)

Knockers,

KBC Peel Hunt reckons the US giant [Emerson] could table an offer in the range of 195-215p.

From the FT

"Our current forecast factors circa 10 per cent declines in the organic sales for uninterrupted power supplies in Europe and US," said Guy Brown, an analyst at Arden Partners. "Currency will provide a significant tailwind masking much of the top-line decay, however margins are expected to decline to 12.5 per cent in 2010."

I shall be very disappointed if things don't improve beyond present price. A similar thing happened to CW. last week, they beat market expectations but it was construed as 'currency exchange' led. May be a similar case here we shall see.

It seems that the markets just don't want to believe that companies can perform in the present climate.

Now this is more positive ...

Broker Charles Stanley has upgraded its recommendation on Chloride ahead of the electrical components maker's results on Monday, saying the company is showing more resilience than expected.

It seems that Seymour Pierce released a 'sell' note with a 140p target price.

"Whilst currency, product mix and the service business should mean that any slow down is less acute for Chloride, the company is not immune to the wider economic issues. We continue to like the business but regard the shares as slightly overvalued at current levels"

Let's see what Monday brings.

Edit: Sorry, it seems that this is last week's news.

I topped up a few too. Should be an interesting day on Monday. The key will be in the outlook for this year. They've been nothing but upbeat in the last couple of trading updates so it's vital we get that message re-iterated again. Theres negligible going on around an Emerson take over anymore so its all down to fundamentals. Any sniff of negativity in the statement and I think we might see it fall, if not I'd like to think a rally might begin... All IMHO of course.
Good luck
