Well I've sold.
1. When news like this comes out the first announcement is seldom the last : there's usually more bad news to follow

2. I don't have confidence in managements which drop this sort of thing on investors without prior warning when trading conditions have clearly been worsening for some time given the severity of the corrective measures they're taking.

Yeah think i agree with your view could be a decent short term short .. time will tell

My view is that this is not bumping along the bottom - the bottom is a fair bit off the current share price

Materially off forecast is too significant for me to jump-in - that said CHTR will recover when the economy reverts back to something that resembles normality. IMO

Anyone else got a view?

Clearly run up from £2 to £6 was dodgy , anyone with any savy knows that all their markets have and still are in meltdown with no signs of recovery .

They can't walk on water and this update is very like Lincoln's first Qtr,very sobering. The irony lies in the decision to pay a dividend after so many years only to almost immediately suffer deteriorating trading conditions.

It's basically to do with the company having moved its tax residence to Ireland, so that the Irish taxman has become involved. The company does however have an arrangement to allow the dividends to be UK-sourced and so only subject to the UK taxman (for a UK shareholder, that is). You've got to elect to receive your dividends that way, though - or in the case of shares held in nominee accounts, get your broker to do so.

If you haven't already read it, there's a section in the 2008 annual report ( downloadable from ) about payment of dividends - it's on page 41 (as numbered on the page - page 43 as far as Acrobat is concerned because there are two cover pages at the start).

The Prospectus that it refers to is also downloadable - use the "Prospectus & Shareholder circulars" link on the above page's left-hand side.

Has anyone contacted the Company re the 20% deduction from the recent dividend (as I have) - and if so have you had a reply (as I haven't) ?

Ready for the next leg up.

Impressive to see this turnaround in a flat FTSE environment. Could be above 600 again next week I hope! DYOR etc.

I've had 20% withheld from my dividend.

Happened to anyone else?

Is it a result of the reincorporation in Ireland?

If so, does anyone know if it can be reclaimed?

Regards

Yes, but a news media outfit mistook it for Charteris and that company's price quadrupled to over 20p.It still ended up 127% even when the error was identified. It beggars belief!

The great Charter helter-skelter,to which i'm now largely immune.Mind you, with the benefit of hindsight, maybe 650p was a bridge too far short term.
