Casual you chose to ignore the point
"no one is saying they can increase production just overnight"
"then a little investment in new kit etc and hey presto profit restored"

They (miners) can buy more kit you know ....

Move up likely quite violent as shorters forced to buy back. Gold could be on double bottom. Brexit may be ok too, to allow FTSE recovery. 1-2% down here each day so shorting pressure. Absolutley amazing value IMO. Sod no cash til October!

Well that website suggests no major short positions! So just the few eejits posting their capitulation theories on here. Strange one. Watch for the rebound. Surely just a case of when.

Fenners, if you have e.g. a ball mill with a certain capacity then that's it. Even with nightshifts. You can only push so much tonnage through at a time.

Unless there is a good reason for it not to, like for example maintenance or water shortage, all miners work at the capacity designed for the mine and types of ore they are mining.

Sorry, but that's just how it is. They can't just open the magic gold tap.

No point comparing to any other business as it just doesn't make sense.

(Btw: "Sukari is a 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-
week operation")

casual47 no one is saying they can increase production just overnight - though that indeed may be possible in with some miners , adding shifts running overnight / weekends etc.

However every director in every operating company when faced with profitability falling because the value of their product is declining should be looking at ways to recover , so the obvious is looking to increase production - when their bonuses depend on it and the profit comparisons start to turn south then a little investment in new kit etc and hey presto profit restored.

just look at OPEC - price of oil falls so what do they do ? Increase production - may be short term easier with oil but nonetheless possible.

When companies are making good money with hi prices there is no incentive

Does anyone know the current short position on cey?I'm assuming it's shorters causing this or ETF changing holdings. No RNS for ETF theory though.

I rememer buying x50 Apple shares when first iPhone came out, (2007/8?) I held them for months, and they fell from $110 to $87 where upon I sold them.(Wasn't too bad as fx had moved in my favor) however the point is I believed in them, but didn't stick with my conviction, I won't make that mistake with cey.

Fenners, how do you propose gold miners just increase production like that?

Don't you think most already run as much as they can at capacity?

Besides maximum capacity restraints by the machinery there are capacity restrictions based on: geology, power supply, water supply, road access, logistics, man power, maintenance needs, exploration needs.....

Whilst the point was made above about a floor for gold and then costs outweighing sales so mines being mothballed - that may eventually be the balance - but with the recent falls I am sure there are lots of firms who look at their profitability reducing and instead decide to increase production. Sure they make less for each ounce but the incremental profit at the margins will be more.

However that decision to increase production - could then lead to further falls in the gold price.

Astjgroom - I dunno if that is pointed at me - I am heavily underwater with Cey. I just want to keep a realistic picture of the situation. I will continue to hold as I fully expect the long term picture to improve in terms of both gold price and operating costs.

"we could see lower AISC costs - but this is yet to be proved."

Lol.

Centamin isn't exactly in its maiden year.....

Also, look at average AISC for the whole year. Everyone knows the second half of the year makes up hugely for first half.
