Already too much capacity in this market, with such large ships it is getting harder to find ports of call. May be a growth market, but these companies are up to their eyeballs in debt, long maturities or not, they are going to refinance at higher rates. Highly likely there will be a credit event that will be eye watering for leveraged companies, and the overall market, and will leave people significantly worse off. This market holds up well as very popular, but are these floating cities going to be able to squeeze more money out of folk, the cruise may be well priced but it is all about the ancillary expenses.

5790 FK!

There was a great show on richard branson a few years ago. He seems to make his billions just by doing the bleedin obvious. Like only moving into areas which are phenomenally profitable already. So he moved into cruising.

I see he's got a new boat being built and launching next month, Brilliant Lady, 2700 pax, to make a fleet of 4. So about a 4 billion quid investment ime. While it's the last line I'd go on, it appeals to many I suppose.

Point is, if branson has moved in, he expects uber profits.

There are about 30 new ships under construction - mainly enormous ships replacing small ones (except for 6 star lines, who seem to buy the old small ships and convert them to luxurious ones, according to their blurb).

We have some new mega ships too, entering service soon

Carnival Jubilee 5,400pax
Sun Princess 4,300
Queen Anne of course, for 3000 lucky, discerning, richer than average, free spending, highly profitable passengers (traders no need to apply)

and 2 more on order for ccl currently unnamed.

Big boats aren't for everyone, but they are for the masses (most of them) and the masses can afford them these days. I doubt very much that the cruise capacity increase these ships represent is anywhere near keeping up with demand .... everyone wants the best value holiday going. Except a few on here of course.

2 WC booked for 25 and 26.1 GT booked for 24On the basis that the next GT is fully booked and other people are reporting how busy the cruises are, this has to be a screaming BUY.I've put my money where my mouth is and gone in deep today.Investor benefits are a no-brainer to get extra obc.The cheapest way to be fed, entertained, and see the world. Making memories with P&O.ALB.... Great longer-term investment.JW

The bofp numbers are just eye watering when sailing >90%.Booked a cheapo msc cruise yesterday after posting about it. 420 quid for a balcony for a week of great eating, opera, ballet, and fantastic theatre shows. Due to status match, we're diamond so get a free spec restaurant meal ( note, another free lobster for wotsisface to droll about ) bottled of fiz etc, priority boarding etc etc. Msc certainly beats p,&o, Cunard for perks. Just don't go on msc during school holiday time.Hoping to win a bid for yacht club this time.

No idea. I'm confident they'll move back into profit at some stage, but covid messed things up. I doubt anyone knows all the details of the accounts - even the company accountants (a bit like microsoft, where no one knows all of windows, the knowledge is distributed). And with multi nationals, profits can to a certain extend be manipulated even ore than pure uk companies. My view is that ccl is at the current price with the current prospects, and i expect the business to improve from here (hence the share price to improve). Simples. I've never even tried to go into and understand big company accounts - i think they are not understandable, especially for pis. Even auditors just say something like the accounts represent a fair indication of the business - nothing detailed there, even though you need a bunch of consultants on 4 or 5k per day to tell you that.

There's a lot of pure luck in investing (even more in trading where odds are you lose), but the economy relies on a rising stock market over time, so the odds are in investors' favour.

That being the case do you think they will have a Q4 profit?

To illustrate value in cruising

Two night dance break in UK, reasonable hotel, breakfast plus evening meal, dancing instruction - £260. Transport not included.

Just looked for cheap cruises on the net. 7 nights on new msc ship, norther cities, breakfast, lunch, evening meal all waiter served if you want, buffet almost 24/7, fresh pizzas, all food made on board from basic ingredients, several things to do at any one time, professional opera performance, west end quality shows each night - £330.

No wonder cruise ships sail 100% full (and higher in school holiday time - they measure occupancy at 100% for two in every cabin, although most can have 2 plus 2 kids).

And people are sceptical that cruise ships are sailing full?.

Cruises booming is sort of counter intuitive imv. in these hard times.

It's very unfortunate, but many not working are quite well off, with many policies hitting mr average working man or person where all the burdens lie. The cruising demographic don't have a mortgage, have a generous il pension on top of other pensions or income, and they have limited time to spend their pot. I'm also tempted to say some or many on disability benefits plus carers benefits are generous enough to have 2/3/4 cruises pa. I'm also tempted to say those demographics are growing year on year.

It's very unfortunate that youngish working families are getting hit very hard, whether they own their home or not. (Pensions should be frozen for a year imv, not triple locked - the current situation is simply very unfair to the young imv).

That's why I'm bullish for cruises. They're very affordable, cheap even, to the older and non-working on benefits - not all but a high percentage. Cruises are, and will remain, mostly full imv

Just bid for a suite on my upcoming cruise, just to illustrate.

Pans, I like the fish and chips in the quays. Strip off the batter and just eat the fish. Then repeat a few times, makes a nice snack inbetween meals.

Full ship here with Britannia in Barbados today. Repositioning cruise across the Atlantic. Just waiting to fly home today after a couple of weeks crossing the Atlantic with the Aurora chasing us across. For those worrying about ship stability, we went through one hell of a storm and never felt a thing. Why the positive move in share price today?

Don't start asking for any facts, it's all an allusion, buy and hold for 10 years and break even. I get a very expensive brochure from Cunard offering me a very generous on board spending offer, and I'm not a shareholder, in fact I haven't traded this share for over 6 months

We did a river cruise with Fred Olsen about 5 years ago. Really enjoyed it. We booked another with Tui when they first started. Fantastic value, but had to cancel because of the pandemic. I saw the Emerald River Cruise, and looked too good to be true. But can't do everything!
