10/8/2022 13:12 | The best P&O cruise we ever did was on the Victoria. 900 passengers. From New Orleans to Barbados. We have never beaten it. No theatre, the show just happened in the bar. Sheer class- mind you a different target market. S | sardine2
10/8/2022 13:06 | My favourite ship is Aurora, and still is today, even though it is P&O's smallest cruise ship today. People said it was far too big back then. In 2000, it's first cruise was a world cruise. It left Southampton and spent all night going round the Isle of Wight before limping back to port to fix an engine fault before cancelling the world cruise. Then there was the old Armani's. We boarded at Southampton where we we're told our departure would be delayed due to an engine problem. We did not sail until 5.30 am the next morning following the crew changing the clutch. They then proudly displayed it in the reception area for all to see. This does not create confidence when departing on a one stop Atlantic crossing.Cont'd' | sardine2
10/8/2022 11:50 | Shame about losing the older ships. The Oriana was my favorite, old and elegant with real wood decking. Not quite the money spinner of the big ships these days (which I also really like for different reasons). | pierre oreilly
10/8/2022 10:33 | Article on cruise industry news saying that 23 ships have been taken out of service since pandemic. These are the older inefficient ships - the average age of ships leaving the fleet was approximately 25 years old, with an average size of approximately 1,661 berths. These are being replaced by the larger more efficient ships. | rettah
10/8/2022 10:26 | Not certain, but i think almost all ccl's ships are back in service now. Mostly reports of all being full, and sailing at 0ver 100% capacity (100% means all cabins full, the extra comes from when kids are in 2 berth cabins making 4 in all, sometimes extra beds come down from the ceiling!). My last cruise was at 100%. It's only a matter of time. They rake in mega amounts of cash when sailing full. I think Princess are the latest to have self-certification that you're covid free instead of shelling out 70 dollars for an observed test. Could someone else do a bofp estimate of profits from a fully booked cruise please? | pierre oreilly
09/8/2022 16:25 | Bounced off the 20 day MA. Its second-quarter occupancy of 65% compared with more than 107% in 2019, a level the company does not expect to reach till the second quarter next year. In contrast, rival Royal Caribbean Group forecast triple-digit occupancy by the end of this year and Carnival Cruise Line expects to approach 110% during its current quarter. | smurfy2001

09/8/2022 15:27 | It's not wider market conditions. I was surprised to see the US follow the UK this afternoon as there was no sign of it this morning. | sardine2
