Haven't Cairn got some Norway stuff progressing nicely? I think the India thing will go on and on, has India re-paid any of its tax money yet? Didn't Shell and Vod win there but are still yet to see a bean? Just asking I don't know I hasten to add. CNE appear to have some very good explor blocks in Mexico though for spud sometime next year? Looks reasonable value to me and a hold at this price. All imho and dyor of course.

Thanks to Alex Newman at the IC - Cairn’s multiplier effect In the long run, Rockhopper’s funding requirements for Sea Lion may be aided by success in its arbitration with Italy, which the oil group believes breached an Energy Charter Treaty when it blocked the development of the Ombrina Mare field. Peculiarly, Cairn Energy (CNE) finds itself in a similar situation. This year, the FTSE 250 constituent should finally receive a judgement on a long-running, high-value tax dispute with India. Cairn believes it has been unfairly affected by India’s decision to block the disposal of a residual 10 per cent stake in Cairn India in 2011, and has a “high level of confidence” in its claim for $1.1bn compensation plus costs. A windfall of this magnitude, equivalent to 115p a share on Numis’s estimation, would have the added bonus of strengthening Cairn’s hand ahead of its FID on its Sangomar Deep (or ‘SNE’) discovery offshore Senegal. Indeed, $800m would cover Cairn’s costs to first oil, expected in 2021 at the earliest. Then again, you would imagine that recent developments in the oil market have only served to strengthen the investment case, regardless of the outcome of the Indian arbitration. With cash starting to flow from Cairn’s working interest in the Catcher and Kraken fields in the North Sea, it may be in a better position to fund SNE-1 than many are assuming. Naturally, Cairn could help itself by farming out or selling a portion of its 40 per cent stake in the project – a possibility Canaccord Genuity believes is likely to face hurdles. Yet with a 10 per cent break-even at $35 oil, SNE-1’s economics are hardly a turn-off. If Brent flatlines at $60, Cairn forecasts an internal rate of return (IRR) of 32 per cent. A 25 per cent IRR at $50 a barrel isn’t to be sniffed at, either. With appraisal activity complete, Cairn and its SNE partners now just need to file an evaluation report, with government approval expected by the end of 2018. Verdict: Positive -----

https://www.bloombergquint.com/business/2018/04/15/income-tax-department-seizes-cairn-energys-rs-440-crore-dividend-income With interest and penalties this tax demand is beginning to stack up, if it exceeds the value of Cairn's 4.95% holding in Vedanta and the arbitration goes against Cairn that would not be a good outcome. Cairn have repeatedly said any liability would only be in respect of their position in India, yet Simon Thompson now appears to be saying that they will abide by the result of the arbitration. But the Indian government have not agreed to abide by the result and indeed it seems quite likely that they would not.

Thanks for tax updates... still in the balance, but I favour holding for a positive result. I wonder why the Indian govt needed more time before Hague decision? One would've thought that their case was formed and finalised when they levied the demand in the first place...

... which contrasts with the Agenda column in the Sunday Times which highlighted the the chance of a positive settlement to the Indian tax dispute. Only 4 months to go so if a positive outcome is even a possibility, we should start to see it priced in

May be a few more days then as Aker BP well (6507/5-8) completed 27/3, 4 days before 34/2-5 S.

There's a dry well announcement by Aker BP this morning but fortunately a different well! I think all wells have an NPD announcement, things properly organized in Norway. Eventually a full report of the strata encountered and sometimes core pictures appears on the Fact pages well list.

News Releases on Well Results can be found at hTTp://www.npd.no/en/news/Exploration-drilling-results/ Not sure if there's one for every exploration well. There do seem to be quite a few dry well announcements in there, so from NPD's perspective, maybe yes?

Do they have to publicise in Norway? If not, immaterial and not worth rns'ing?

Thanks xxnjr1, we are waiting for Aker BP then, NPD entry for the PL790 licence lists the drill 34/2-5S as having finished on 31.03.18. Usually I think the company makes the initial announcement (sometimes it is one of the junior partners if the major can't be bothered) and the NPD put up a formal result some days later.

Was slightly curious no news, so emailed NPD earlier today. Received following response "Information regarding results of exploration drilling is usually released in cooperation with the operator company. I expect a press release will be made available shortly"

Cairn have won Block 15 in Mexico Bid Round 3 hTTps://rondasmexico.gob.mx/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/r31_A15.pdf If you assume geological risk is inversely proportional to the State Take of Mex.gov then Cairn may have quite a lot of work to do on Block 15. hTTps://rondasmexico.gob.mx/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Resultado-del-acto-de-apertura-y-presentación-de-propuestas..pdf

If you like the shipbroker lists, there is also platou, hagland and braemar and no doubt others, sometimes the information differs a bit. I think it's mostly entertainment value but may give a clue that a drill is finishing too early to be a success. Some of the newer semi-subs are self propelled, but I think they still need anchor handlers (my understanding of the details strictly limited).
