10/2/2021 19:03 | I thought it was both, the non disclosure of data etc. just made matters worse for BUR, not many would think the LSE & FCA are corrupt (like I do) so losing, in a way made MW's case stronger. As a LTH with BUR and down 57%, it's only strong results and good publicity that's going to change things. I think they could do a lot more to improve their image and reputation but they don't...Maybe the Reddit crowd could bet on them! | rar100
10/2/2021 18:56 | Nasty late trade unless it's a delayed buy. | hatfullofsky
10/2/2021 18:00 | rar I think you might be referring to BUR's case against the LSE, not the FCA? It was truly bizarre that the judge decided it was against the public interest to expose the trading data to see who was doing what, when and where, in BUR shares on the LSE. | tradertrev
10/2/2021 17:38 | Not many folk know of Burford or indeed Lit. Fin, and when a newbie discovers BUR for whatever reason, they will look at the long term chart and think it pretty odd, then further research will uncover the MW attack - questioning BUR's accounting. Not many would know of BUR's fightback, the case against the FCA etc. (and the FCA being toothless at best and probably corrupt and couldn't afford to let BUR win as it would set a precedent - and the FCA would be toast) The Peterson case - too unlikely, great if it happens but.... So there has to be a blitz of good info on BUR, good results etc. published in financial journals/press to move the share price The share price needs to move north consistently for a few months, not do what it has been doing since MW. Hopefully the start will be in 7 days time, BUR's update...who knows, maybe they will make a good job of it... | rar100
10/2/2021 15:49 | Hilariously it was Cannaccord who got me lumbered with this stock. Lol | bogman1
10/2/2021 15:22 | Canaccord, one of the bigger bears on Burford, updated their sell recommendation to a hold. | lazg
10/2/2021 15:11 | Optimism around trading update next week? | chockabloke
10/2/2021 14:58 | Nah, no rhyme nor reason.... | lomax99
10/2/2021 14:52 | Anyone got any ideas what's up today? It could be just the usual Burford volatility, but that tends to only go in the down direction.... so maybe there's something happening? Anyone? | dgdg1
10/2/2021 11:21 | Light the proverbial blue touch paper if they are involved.Whilst Petersen may cast a shadow, they have cash realisation of 10+ times their original investment. BUR also highlighted that large cases were far from one offs, I believe they highlighted 22 $100m+ claims when reporting last year. | lomax99
10/2/2021 10:48 | I was looking into the Virtnex v Apple case on another matter, see Burford mentioning it too. It's the sort of case that could encourage lots of similar actions, given the size of the payout (virtnex sued Apple for breach of patents and have been awarded historic damages plus 84c from every iPhone or iPad sold in future). I have no reason to believe Burford were involved in that case. hxxps://news.bloombe | donald pond
09/2/2021 17:59 | kazoom - spot on! That's 45 for the Dark Lord himself x3 for the 3 terms he should have had. I will now buy only in multiples of 135, until the Deep State has been brought down | compo62
09/2/2021 16:28 | Just off the top of my head, but maybe something to do with spread-bets? They sometimes result in strange deal sizes. Otherwise it might be a message from "Q". | kazoom
09/2/2021 16:15 | Just noticed today so many trades in multiples of 135? 270, 405, 540? Wonder why? Any clues? | dekle
04/2/2021 06:49 | Re Jaguar: Napo was one of the central themes of MW so they gave quite a detailed timeline following that: The agreement was quite complex with some shares Jaguar was supposed to sell at an agreed price vesting into extra ordinary shares if they couldn't (they couldn't, so BUR got another $8m in cash and BUR got a chunk more shares). BUR sold $625k of stock in 2018. There have been a load of reverse stock splits since so it would probably be far more effort than it's worth to calculate the current value (unless it's a straight forward 10% holding but I haven't seen that anywhere) but it seems likely only to be a few million at best. | 1aconic
03/2/2021 21:47 | I saw you were annoying the LIT thread with RBGP. I had to give you an up vote! You'll be pleased to hear RBGP was also upgraded to a super stock, but you know that already without the help of stocko, especially if you saw the webinar earlier today :) | scubadiverr
03/2/2021 21:43 | *Stockopedia data. | scubadiverr
03/2/2021 21:42 | It's algorithm led and rates stocks on the factors of Quality, Value and Momentum. Because the price has fallen the value has increased. With all 3 factors now being better than average the rating is upgraded to super stock, the best catagory as backed up by stock data. The price fall still hurts today so not really much of a consolation! | scubadiverr
03/2/2021 21:20 | 2017 Annual Report pages 23-24: "Jaguar Health We have repeatedly commented on the increasing complexity of Burford’s investment transactions, and the Jaguar investment is an example of both investment and accounting complexity – but also an illustration of our success in turning complexity into profit. Jaguar is a NASDAQ-listed pharmaceutical company. Burford provided financing in connection with a litigation matter involving one of Jaguar’s predecessors. In the end, Jaguar was not successful in the litigation although it did succeed in using the litigation to reach a desirable non-financial settlement. The structure of our investment and of Jaguar’s subsequent corporate changes have led us to be paid a sum of cash in 2017 that more than recovered our invested capital with the remainder of our return coming in the form of a series of complex equity transactions that now leave us holding around 6% of Jaguar’s voting common stock along with rights over a further interest in the company (collectively worth approximately $6 million at the end of 2017). Because Jaguar is publicly traded in an active market, we are obliged to mark our equity position to market, which in 2017 caused an unrealised oss of $6.95 million as the stock price declined from a formulaic deal price at which our equity interests were initially issued (which we are reporting separately as “net loss on equity securities” on the income statement). Stocks like Jaguar are notoriously volatile in the US equity markets and we expect the potential of continued market price volatility for so long as we hold this position, which will have non-cash earnings impact. Some of our interest in Jaguar remains locked-up and we have not yet determined our path forward with respect to the investment, but every incremental dollar for us from this investment will be pure profit as we have already recovered our invested capital and a cash profit from our initial investment." | stentorian
03/2/2021 21:17 | They got it as part of a settlement - came out in the MW attack From memory they'd either written it off or had conservatively marked it It was their only equity position They'd also taken a land holding at one point | williamcooper104
03/2/2021 21:07 | What was the story on why BUR has been made a super stock? | dekle
03/2/2021 20:02 | glad someone does... | rar100
03/2/2021 19:48 | Stockopedia has upgraded Burford today as a Super Stock! | scubadiverr
03/2/2021 19:46 | Tradertrev, Burford own 10% of Jaguar Health? please excuse my ignorance but why? | rar100
02/2/2021 23:45 | Do we still own 10% of Jaguar Health? I do hope so, given that they appear to have tripled in price since the beginning of this year. Even better if we sold them when they had quadrupled in mid-January. | tradertrev |
