I don't mind taking a 15% cut in dividend take through tax (in my ISA) if the share price is 50% higher .. |
#Montyhedge, that is also true on many shares, growth is all about compounding the PF dividends over time to get there, we can either have income or growth not both.. :o)
Our next TU here not yet confirmed, but was 06.12.2023, 08.12.2022, 07.12.2021 |
But no capital growth, GSK shareprice below what it was 30 years ago, Lloyds below what it was 30 years ago. I could go on and on. |
#Kernalthread, whilst that is true, zoom out some and look at 40 years of FTSE100 growth, I have it at 5.25% p/a, plus I am averaging 5.25% in dividend income, so on balance at 11% it is not as bad as it looks..
US index companies pay miserly dividends if any at all, they do look overheated and we are about +5% for 2024 YTD so in theory we are very undervalued and better placed for growth, how insulated we will be IF they sell off stateside we will need to wait and see.. :o) |
It's not just the last year. From the beginning of 2013 the FTSE has gone from 6500 to 8072 - that works out about 2% a year over 11 years. The S&P has gone from 1500 to 6000 in the same time, which works out at 13% a year. |
Yeah I think a lot more companies listed in the UK will have had that relocation thought cross their mind these past few days.
The 4.4% growth figure of the FT100 in the past year means you would have got more from a high interest savings account which just about says it all really.
Good luck all 👍🏻 |
#Topazfrenzy, it is possible, but as an income investor that would result in 30% WHT on the dividends, 15% in the ISA, a SIPP escapes the tax but most ISA providers get caught by it and stopped at source..
There are tools to reclaim it, but after exploring these I have found the only way is to do a US tax return and gave up on that can of worms to focus on UK derived income and not US.. |
I am 100% convinced that BATS will relocate to the US before we know it with Trump now in power. With corporate tax to be slashed to 15% and a bonfire of regulations, any large company would be thinking this, BATS already is big in the US so it makes absolute sense. The UK is no place to be.
If this happens, then we are looking at an share price that is at least 50% higher. |
Yes you are right, but still a lot of money to give up. I think one of the reasons other tobacco stocks have outperformed Bats. |
That's my understanding, too. |
#Monty, it will not help much for sure, but fines/costs are to come from ITCAN and out of profits from future sales, so the way I read it is the BAT parent company is ring fenced from the fallout and costs..? |
I think you may be right, monty. Make sense. |
Looking through news, for me this overhanging, might be keeping price subdued.https://www.claimsjournal.com/news/national/2024/10/21/326939.htm |
Don't forget couple of days ago roughly 2650p, so not too bad. |
Yeah I agree. While frustrating to see price action like we had yesterday it is normal.
What we now want is a slow tick up and a break and hold of 2800. That gives a nice bit of short to mid term momentum and could help bring the buyers in for a push on to 2900 / 3000. That divi too that's not all that long away will also play a part in supporting that I feel.
Good luck all 👍🏻 |
Bound to be profit taking by traders. |
Very frustrating day today. £1 up and then nearly a case of us going into negative territory. If we don't go beyond £0 in next 4 weeks after todays results, then we have issues! |
Obvious retrace/gap-fill |
UK and EU money coming off the table when the US opens and a shift to the other side of the pond by the looks of things.
Good luck all 👍🏻 |
To be fair she has a better camels toe than the Don.By the by, wonder has anyone woken Joey up yet. |
Blimey that's a hell of a retrace we climbed and dropped by near enough 100p in a few hours |
Dow up 3% wow |
If that gap-up is right, then the share price might yet retrace. |
