Takeover by Abu Dhabi. How ironic as BP started life as a colonial vehicle in the Middle East lol

I think it's more likely Scirocco mounts a bid..... Gov wouldn't allow a foreign country to takeover in my view but never say never

It was well known it was a takeover target, I would imagine others are looking as well. Chevron top bet for a buyout of BP so the rumours go.

BP share price nears key level amid heightened M&A rumours

Adnoc, a major Abu Dhabi company, considered buying BP.

There have been rumours of BP acquisition for many months.

BP is seen as a good and undervalued oil and gas company.

Still, any BP buyer would receive an undervalued company that makes billions of dollars in free cash flow. BP trades at a cheap PE multiple compared to the likes of Exxon and Chevron.

Their "strategy" probably involves not getting into a toxic stand-off with the market-unfriendly "conservative" government of the UK.

Well this is a rather pleasant end to the week! I am confused however why the potential UAE oil giant stated that the reason they didn't bid for BP is that it did not fit in to their strategy, but then went on to say they have worked in partnership with BP for several decades. Surely they know the business...

BP's debt is easily manageable with their cash flows.

Meb. They are buying their shares back at a cost of over 100 million a day. Not a company worried about debt.

Some analysts are saying the discount is due to the level of BPs debt . Hopefully that will be put to bed soon with the cash it is generating.

70% uplift to put us on equal footing to US peers would put BP at nearly £9 and Shell at a staggering £48
I’d be up for a bit of that no worries

Excellent news. BP should be very clear with the Government that loyalty is conditional. In other words, we've been shown none therefore they can expect none.

Should be exploring a move to the USA or positioning for a takeover - pay debt down and look like you want to be in a beauty contest. There's no long term future on the LSE. Only a matter of time before ESG rules force BP out anyway.

Eyes down on 2nd May as Shell report and the CEO may expand on ‘upping sticks’ to the US. The Guardian has another piece on this subject today. BP report on the 7th May, enough time for Murray to decide if he should join the discussion or keep ‘stum’. I am minded that he will say just enough to keep people on their toes. Both SP’s imo should move north, the size of the move dependant on the language / firmness of opinions as to the best home for the company. An interesting time ahead for US holders.
