They've got a bit of a moment of truth coming up with the 3Q results, which may be causing some nervousness.

Firstly their ops cash target for the year. They delivered $16bn in 1H with Brent at $109/bbl. Their target was $30-31bn for the year with Brent at $100/bbl (although their 2Q presentation now talks about $100/bbl "oil" rather than specifically Brent). Brent was $102 in 3Q and is currently about $92, so is still likely to average more than $100 for the year. Do they still feel confident of delivering the ops cash?

Secondly the gross negligence finding. Will they have to take a big charge in the accounts as they now have a court decision (even though they are challenging it) and their existing clean water act penalty provision is based explicitly on the assumption that they did not act with gross negligence?

Slipped to 438.7 low today. Under 440 for a brief period. Dow surging now. Seems to be a dog fight for direction on at the moment in ukx / dow. Quite big swings. Volatile. I would be surprised if bp keeps relentlessly moving south. Who knows?

If OPEC has any sense they would allow oil drift to $75-80. This would seriously test US shale producers, discourage marginal field development elsewhere and work in their favor long term. Short term pain..... imo

You are leading a life of Riley; don't think he was Welsh, sounds Irish.

I trust Hound Younger has not picked up too many bad habits from Hound Elder.

You must be doing ok. Us Prols have to be content with Lidl second best which does has the advantage of removing hair from the top lip.

The market has been interesting of late and returned to some semblance of reality probably in preparation for the Santa Rally, we have to have one of those it's traditional.

Have a pleasant time in London and be careful of the Spivs.

Evening bracke!
You just have to stand back in amazement at the little furry fellow's skills!
Got a day off today, so just chilled out in the trading pit with the new hound and the wood-burner. Had some music playing through the headset, and all was well in my little world.
Going to be about another six months before I can hand back the family jools. Some important meetings tomorrow, then off to the big City of London for one more on Friday. Going to stay in London for the weekend with Mrs. P, who deserves a break.
Just put a couple of bottles of Tesco's finest white (honest!) in the fridge, because I fancy a drink that's not going to leave me in a bad way tomorrow.
Don't know whether to do anything else in the casino tonight. Seen some real belters come and go, but got enough risk laid on with the day job at the moment.
Looks as if the STX thread is now dead. Hope nobody got hurt.
You must be OK 'cos your still around. That's the real test.

WTI is off nearly 2%, it did look value to me here,
but with the oil price in rapid decline now I'm not so sure.

If you are brave you buy around these levels.

Monkey just gave me that. I'm not in it. Just looking to see if he's still worth the money I pay him. Institutional selling seems to be slowing Stateside.

Afternoon all. Absolutely bucketing down here. Just got soaked while walking the new hound. Still holding long here, together with ARM and OML. Paid the rent on EURO/GBP.
It appears that the results here will be published soon, followed or preceded by the share going ex. div.

Trade well and prosper Earthligs, there's a rally coming.........

Hi EI, yes but I have noted bp has held firm above 440 today. Results and xd coming up shortly and strong support around this area. I don't know if we'll have a little bounce upwards from here or continue on the down channel. Ebola could also hit the markets as it is very frightening given its now in Madrid. Rio had one hell of a day!
