Loads of historical support 430 / 440 area. I expect the share price to hover around this area for a while. Not ready to enter as of yet.

Forced to continue paying but all applications from the date of the appeal had to meet sensible criteria AFAIR

Yes but they keep dishing out the $ billions. Barbier forced them to continue after they stopped temporarily.
As they say in the cut price ads 'Once it's gone it's gone!'

Let's hope that BP string this out as long as they can.It may be that Barbier will die of old age before any settlement.

Depends on the oil price largely, as well as the UKX.

It would seem to me all about being strong and setting up a possible negotiation.

BP need to be extremley strong when dealing with the Americans who have very unreasonable since day 1. They need to understand that BP will fight this for
many years and explore every single legal avenue. There are lots of things
they could acutally do. For example they could much more aggreesively pursue fraudulent claims and personally bankrunpt those they found out. They could dug up an awful lot of dirt on many of the Americans involved in the anti BP campaign. Theres lots they could do. I am sure theres a loit they could do financially as well with their business interests that would hurt the US financially. the Americans
need to be no under illusion that should they choose to do so they are going
to face a very long bitter fight. The reality about that of course is that many
lawyers get very rich out of it,

theres another thought ? What happens if Exxon / shell / Total or a smaller American Oil company has a major spill in American waters in the future ?
Arent BP and their resources among the best people to help out ? Americans
can be very stupid and shortsigheted at times ? They need to be reminded
about that possibiity and if they behave more reasonably then BP will
be much more inclined to help out !

Theres the 20% Russian Rosneft stake as well. BP can do a lot of things
with that to the Americans advantage and disadvantage.

The better way for both sides surely has to be a negotiated settlement.
BP need to make a good clever case for this with stick and carrot approach.
At the end of the day money talks in cash oil and resooruces. Why should
both sides waster years on this making the legal profession even richer.

This is where having top class executives and negotiators earn their money.

I think the point might be to postpone the ultimate date for payment and hopefully to a Republican administration. They don't seem to be as effective as Exxon (Exxon Valdez) who managed to create a 20 year delay.

agreed BP are not likely to find a decent outcome in the USA regardless of whose courtroom they are in.
