21/7/2024 12:15 | When will we see the first elevate.io plugin working on elevate.io? | hyper al
21/7/2024 12:12 | So if elevate.io has really created a plugin system for all video related processing on Chromebooks then that surely is a first and will become the platform for Chromebook plugin developers wanting to develop using the incorporated android stack. | hyper al
21/7/2024 12:07 | Chromebooks can be plugged into high bandwidth fibre-optic networks, mobile phones can't, limited to 5G max and it's poor coverage. | hyper al
21/7/2024 12:07 | Hyper Interesting Chromebooks have always been off my radar because they couldn’t do video so time for me to look at the whole Chromebook world. Of course adding Google AI into the mix is interesting Not that up to speed on Google AI for Video Looks like a rabbit hole to go down! Everything is changing so rapidly in this space | nickb
21/7/2024 12:03 | That story has made my weekend. When did the elevate.io Chromebook story come out? Was it same time as the above Google release? | hyper al
21/7/2024 12:02 | Adobe premiere won’t run on a Chromebook There is a dividing line between traditional heavy duty software running on PC / Mac hardware And lightweight powerful Cloud apps running on simple cheap hardware but using very powerful distributive Cloud hardware. Google is pure Cloud apps as we know | nickb
21/7/2024 11:52 | This is massive news for elevate.io future development and probably explains the Chromebook story ”Bringing the Android-based tech stack into ChromeOS will allow us to accelerate the pace of AI innovation at the core of ChromeOS, simplify engineering efforts, and help different devices like phones and accessories work better together with Chromebooks. " Did Google do this for Blackbird? I mean, I assume it is exactly what our developers need!!! | hyper al
21/7/2024 11:50 | The key advantage that elevate.io has it that it is Cloud Native and it has access to the BIRD patented software. I don't see BIRD agreeing to let competitors use their technology. So the ChromeBooks market is effecively closed off unless they have a way to make more memory available that does not sit on the ChromeBook. Apple and the others have very fast hardware but is it faster than BIRDs software? Google certainly know BIRD because some years ago SBS said when he met them that he had solved a problem that they had tackled (with lots of manpower and money) and declared impossible and proceeded to show them. I don't think that the silence from Alphabet, MSFT or AWS means that they are not interested. They must know that the market is growing very fast and AWS played a significant part in helping BIRD solve some of their problems. But they won't want to let their competitors get wind of what they may do so if anything is in the wind there will be NDAs. BIRD said they would not deal exclusively wih AWS and that implies they will not do so with any of the big 3. That seems a very sensible position. If I were a big player in Video Editing I would be very worried about elevate.io because it certainly looks like it has disruptive technology that it will be difficult to counter. The Figma fiasco shows that bids would be difficult to get accepted. If BIRD really can grow elevate.io exponentially (per SR/IM at the AGM) the problem is coming down the track like a TGV. | chriscallen
21/7/2024 11:38 | i think the chromebook development is not a google tie in but rather exactly on message for our mission. one of the significant benefits of elevate is the anytime/anywhere philosophy, eg. a low powered computer and a low bandwidth connection. likewise raspberry pi - although the user base and community for that is much smaller, so i should think targeting those users will be low down on the list of priorities. | jj_1237
21/7/2024 11:33 | I do wonder if elevate.io team are getting technical development help from Google. I mean Google do have really good developer support, but by using that support Google will know about elevate.io, surely not a bad thing 🙂 | hyper al
21/7/2024 11:28 | Also the Chrome browser will be very well integrated with the Chromebook operating system, which may well make elevate.io even more appealing on the Chromebook. Could it be that the top notch pay as you go version of elevate.io will work best on Chromebook? But obviously still work on Chrome browser. For example, maybe when using Chromebook elevate.io could be developed so users could connect hardware for sound/image input directly into elevate.io or perform realtime editing on streaming services. What's the largest 4k screen Chromebook? Would be cool to have elevate.io on it. Just some of my thoughts. The potential is huge. | hyper al
21/7/2024 10:47 | Shortsqeezer That’s a good question, one can only speculate! What we do know is the Chromebook market is Very big and the current video apps are Very poor so that’s a massive opportunity for us. Google should be very happy and supportive if we make their Chromebooks do fantastic video editing for creators or anyone else, it can only make Chromebooks more appealing and increase sales. Apple and PC companies have extensively used video editing to demonstrate how fast their hardware is in their sales marketing. So my understanding is they are going to do some optimisation work on elevate which will make it more powerful on such devices. I’d speculate and be very surprised if Google doesn’t know about us. | nickb
20/7/2024 18:58 | shortsqueezer the company I work for just raised a significant capital injection from Alphabet’s investment arm. They aren’t pushing us to run on Google Cloud or develop for Chromebook, but we coincidentally are going down the latter route ;-) What they do provide is great support for these initiatives. | hairflick
20/7/2024 18:53 | Remember there are no shares left in BIRD. - well maybe 50-100k at these prices. That institution realy bummed us. Our reward time is here IMO. I reckon double or triple last spike I mean the 40p one.. BWTFDIK SSB | sideshowbull
20/7/2024 17:39 | I've been thinking about this sudden emphasis on Chromebook. Is this another potential tie in to Google. Or am I reading too much into it? | shortsqueezer |
