I have avoided the calls. He has made two already!! Sky news were outside St Andrews and the reporter was saying in so many words that it was suspended to do with the ownership rather than the police. I reckon Gold has bought Sullivan out. It is strange that it is only Sullivan and not the Golds that were arrrested

Very sad indeed. Seeing as the MMs made it nigh on impossible to sell shares before this scandal, I doubt that they will give shorters the opportunity to short this. Fingers crossed! Also, I'd rather they did up dirt on the directors and they stay promoted, rather than the other way around.

Worse case is that they are guilty and points are docked.

to look at it in perspective, these dodgy payments have been made by most if not all football clubs. Just the unlucky ones that get caught! Shares suspended also today

Well sadly maybe there was some truth after Birmingham directors arrested on corruption and false accounting.

Be lucky all but I feel the shorters are going to be on this one tomorrow.

he will be horrofied!!! I am surprised though (when I saw it in the accounts) that they are taking so much. I thought the parachute was in the tv rights but the figures look too low. So where is it??

Hi Bluenose, no we don't get it once we are back in the Premiership. I believe it stops as soon as you are promoted if that happens during the parachute payment period and you get the Premiership merit money instead based on your league position. Also if you get relegated straight away then the parachute payment starts again from scratch.

Also, I've had a look and the payments are over 2 seasons, not 3 as I thought. I think they used to be £6.5M a year but have increased due to the new TV deal. Not sure if we got the increased money (£8m+ I think) or the old £6.5M figure. Looking at the accounts I'm not sure but I would have thought that the parachute payment was in £6.7m for TV and Radio coverage but that would seem to be too low if the parachute payment was £6.5m as I'm sure the actual broadcast figures would be higher than £200k.

Out of interest the payments to Sullivan and the Golds over the past few years according to the annual reports have been as follows:

y/e Aug 2004 - £1.052m (to Sport Newspapers - assuming £52k for services of Roger Bannister that would leave £1m to Sullivan and the Golds)

y/e Aug 2005 - £140k each to Sullivan's company and Gold's company plus £52k to Sport Newspapers (presumably just for Roger Bannister)

y/e Aug 2006 - as 2005

y/e Aug 2007 - £485k each to Sullivan's company and Gold's company plus £52k to Sport Newspapers (again, presumably just for Roger Bannister)

There are also some "related transactions" for other services but not really significant and the sort of thing that you would expect but has to be shown in the report for the purpose of transparency. Overall they have received, via their other companies, about £2.5m over the past 4 sets of accounts. Looking at the previous sets of accounts (going back to 1998) there weren't any "remuneration" type payments to them.

Hopefully that will put your mate's mind at rest although I'm guessing he will probably not be too happy at the thought of them having £2.5m!!

andy

i did take a look at the accounts but it wasnt clear how much the parachute payment was or how it was paid. Do we still get it if we remain in the pemiership if its over three years??

Spurs first trophy in 9 years. Uefa cup qualification guaranteed for next year. Nothing to play for in the league. So, frankly, I was not disappointed with the result. On the contrary, it means BMC will probably avoid the drop, and I make more dosh with my BMC shares and still get to see Spurs in Europe next year!

I was going to mention the same thing but restrained myself! Still, I'm sure Ian would stll rather be a Spurs fan than a Blues fan despite our magnificent result at the weekend. I dream of winning trophies and playing in Europe and I'm sure that once Spurs get their central defenders sorted they will be a real threat to the top four next season - Berbatov and Keane up front are as good as any pairing in the league in my opinion.

I'm surprised how quiet it seems to be here at the moment. I really thought that there would have been more director buys announced as the current board aim to go over 50% - looks like they might be keeping their hands in their collective pockets for the time being after all.

At the moment (assuming no other director purchases that have yet to be announced), the current board control 49.62% of the shares by my reckoning. They only need to buy just under 308,000 more shares to take them beyond the 50% mark which I would expect that they would do over the next few days/weeks (they wouldn't want to push the price up too much!).

Don't think this has any impact on the longer term possibilities of a takeover as I'm sure they will sell if they get the right offer but what they want to do is show Carson Yeung that he is sitting on an investment that gives him no more power than I or any other small shareholder have.

Once all this posturing is over I guess the shareprice will float around the current levels and will only move significantly up or down only based on the changing probablity of relegation or in the event that another buyer comes in and makes an offer that the board accept. That may or may not leave Grandtop with a loss but hopefully as my shares average out at a cost of 28p I will be looking at a profit even if they aren't!!

Reels, the RNS is misleading. The 24.39% stake that David Gold has includes the entire beneficial holding he has with his brother as well as the shares he owns on his own. Sullivan and the Golds still own less than 50% of the shares but I'm guessing that they won't stop buying until they go over the 50% figure. Don't be surprised if there is another RNS over the next day or so showing Sullivan has bought as well. Essentially they are raising the middle digit to Carson Yeung.

I have read todays RNS twice - because it is amazing!
The Golds own 43% of BCFC and Sullivan 23.25% and with Yeung at 29.9% that leaves the rest of us with 6%! This could gett very interesting - back to 60p+ any views.

Gold has increased his stake again... surely with his beneficial ownership the brothers must now bid? Only Yeung can lose here? Unless a white knight in the wings?
