I'm speculating that if you'd made a shed load in SMT ,for example,and wanted to realise some profit,you might contemplate getting shot of this trust (if you were in loss)to reduce potential capital gains.I'm talking my book out loud I guess!

steeple-the last note form the board explained this because of the focus on small and mid caps and they think long term this is a winner- I am happy to be patient but what do you mean it will find itself being sold?

This investment trust has a very wide spread of holdings and is arguably very conservatively managed.Unlike an SMT,no one holding really predominates but that maybe a function of the fact that no one holding has raced ahead like a Tesla.The whole biotech sector enjoyed a massive ‘covid kicker’ but that benefit has now clearly evaporated and its difficult to see whats going to shake the sector out of its lethargy.This trust is more than likely to find itself being sold to reduce capital gains as the financial year end approaches.Its probably been turfed out of tax free wrappers some months back out of sheer boredom.I suppose one could just hold on,afterall over years the stock has been a worthwhile performer but i find it difficult not to reflect that i bought in at a bad time when all things biotech were in the limelight as a result of the pandemic.

Absolutely ali47fish - I did a lot of investing about 4 months ago and BIOG has been by far the worst performing fund of those that I bought then, especially in the last few days! Finding it very hard to find out reasons for this. Slightly better today, but I'm hoping it improves a LOT more!

2.5% of BIOG portfolio represented by Biogen which jumped some 40% in the US yesterday following FDA approval of its Alzheimer drug.

Like the American bias in stocks and topped in Feb at 1750 so feels like a but the dip moment with 50% upside in short/medium term I hope. However may sell off a bit more. I'm happy with 1235 entry.

Ali. That's what I meant. I'm wondering what's going on. Another Investment Trust I have WWH, has suffered the same fate so I don't believe it's BIOG specific. I'm holding on.....
