I had i phone call from e.on on friday asking me if i wanted a smart meter fitted for free. The meter would link both my gas and electricity.
It appears the long awaited roll out is gaining momentum.

It was due to an announcement that NPower was rolling out their meters... things should pick up now with the government legislation on meters becoming clearer.

A 22% jump in the share price today on minimal volumes - could the MMs have got wind of some contract news leaking in the background ?

Results

Turnover increased by 60 per cent to £4.50 million (2007: £2.81 million), which is lower than expectations as a result of our contracted customers delaying installations as noted above.

Gross margins were 30.7% (2007: 24.4%). Administrative costs increased to £4.88 million (2007: £2.96 million), as the Group invested in increased data management and communication systems and the training of a sufficient number of people, which will be required when the anticipated increase in installations and data management services are achieved in 2008 and 2009.

The operating loss for the period was £3.50 million (2007: £2.28 million) and after net finance income, the loss before taxation was £3.47 million (2007: £2.38 million) and the loss per share was 4.35p (2007: 4.18p).

PLACING AND SUBSCRIPTION TO RAISE £2.65 MILLION

bglobal plc ("bglobal" or the "Group" or the "Company") (AIM: BGBL), the leading smart metering and energy data services provider is pleased to announce that it proposes to raise approximately £2.50 million (net of expenses) through a placing and subscription of new Ordinary Shares at 20 pence per Ordinary Share . The Placing and Subscription has been undertaken to provide additional capital to support the recent increase in order pipeline and the increase in installations anticipated over the coming months.

The Placing is subject to approval by Shareholders of the Resolutions at the Extraordinary General Meeting. An Extraordinary General Meeting has been convened for 11.00 a.m. on 27 August 2008, at which Shareholders will be asked to consider and, if thought fit, approve the resolutions required to implement the placing.

Bglobal FY pretax loss widens but confident on outlook; to raise £2.5m.

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Bglobal Plc. reported a wider full year loss
but said with the recent increase in order pipeline to 140,000 meters and
increased visibility of meter installations in the coming months, it remains
confident on its outlook. The company said it would raise 2.5 million pounds net by placing 13.3m new shares at 20.0 pence per share to augment its working capital. The smart metering and energy data services company said for the year to end-March, its pretax loss widened to £3.47m from £2.28 m, however turnover grew 60 percent to £4.5m. Bglobal also said it appointed Tony Barnes as chief operating officer (COO)and Tim Jackson-Smith, as non-executive director, effective September 1, 2008.

I have would like to know the answer as well.
I few thousand sells and the share plummets, makes no sense unless something is happening in the background. I had i look at the website, i noticed the company is recruiting, so they must have orders coming in. maybe mm's playing games or the market being over sensitive.

They don't have 'backing from the government' ! It is the intention of the government to extend the requirement for smart meters to be installed in medium size companies to promote more efficient energy management. This follows on from large companies and public organisations. The increasing legislative momentum behind smart meter installation will clearly benefit BGlobal and their competitors by underpinning the expanding market for this type of equipment.

However this does not guarantee the future success of any company in this sector - they need to be well managed, properly financed, have a competitive product range and an effective marketing strategy. Whether BGlobal measures up to this remains to be seen. They need to attain profitability as their first major threshhold not increase operating losses as they are doing at the moment. This is the main reason why the share price has more than halved over the past 9 months.

Still on my watchlist but not tempted to buy back in yet after briefly holding them last summer before selling out at circa 63p.

Hello "prospective" long-term holders

I previously posted this on the QTI bb.

"I'm a holder QTI and BGBL on the view that governments smart meter scheme will indeed take place. The trade body Energy Retail Association (ERA) say the programme (to put a smart meter in every home) will cost no more than £5bn. However the government feels that it could cost between £10bn -£20bn and is concerned that the cost could be passed on to the consumers.
Either way the plan is for smart meters to commence being rolled out from 2010. So I will be riding this one out until then because the utilities companies will not be allowed to produce or deliver their own smart meters.
So companies like QTI and BGBL only need a tiny foothold of the aggregate (£12.5bn) market to grow immensely".

Today's new was unfortunate so I took the opportunity to purchase another tranche at 28p. I will continued to hold these and QTI post 2010 when the government rolls out the the programme fully.

All the best.

I bought these after the IPO at circa 61p last year and sold them at just under 63p in August when the credit crunch began to emerge. Even after todays drop in the share price to 29p the business is valued at £17.5m. Last year they lost £1.7m on sales of £2.8m so if losses are now expected to be greater than that then they have a lot of their future potential over the next year or so built into the share price already.

In the longer term they are in a solid growth sector but that in itself will not lift the share price or guarantee that they will make money in this market. I would like to see some significant growth in sales, and at least the prospect of the business approaching break-even, before considering buying back into this company.

the statement was never going to be good, however they have postioned themselves in a very strong position with the energy market to be able to fully exploit the take up of smart metering.

The bad news..

"..the fulfilment of a number of significant orders won during the year has been slower than anticipated and as a result revenues for the financial year just ended are expected to be significantly below market expectations and the expected loss correspondingly higher.."

The good news...

the government last week did at last give the go-ahead for smart metering of 'medium size' enterprises, making it likelier that customers will now proceed with orders they've been holding back on.

The European utilities market for smart metering has outpaced its counterparts in North America and Asia, and is likely to maintain its lead, according to ABI Research.
