MMs short of stock now - every buy raises the price - so someone in the know is buying - could be some good news on the way. happy to watch this one develop - its nice and quiet at present so there is plenty of opportunity here.

I think I've only posted on realclimate once - but others may have commented in a similar vein. Ann van der Bom has been very insightful.

Where do I get my figures from? Well, funnily enough, there's enough in "Hot Air" to hoist him by his own petard. He says he's ignoring all social, economic and environmental constraints. But then he only uses 10% of land for onshore wind potential; he only uses one-third of British seas shallower than 50m, and none of the seas deeper than 50m for offshore wind potential; and he only looks at coastal waves, whereas the majority of our wave power is out in the deep waters of NW Scotland the red/amber/orange areas have the highest wave energies - MacKay only uses the waves in the yellow & green areas of the west coast. (graphic courtesy of BERR)

He says that Britain can't power itself on its own renewables. But look more closely at his figures. Actual UK energy demand is around 98kWh per person per day (Hot Air p116). We could get the equivalent amount purely from wind turbines in two-thirds of UK waters of less than 50 metres depth (Hot Air p61), ignoring all the onshore wind, wave, tidal barrage, geothermal, solar thermal, PV, biomass, and tidal stream! It wouldn't be a sensible energy portfolio, but it does demonstrate very vividly that his claim that UK renewables just don't exist in sufficient quantity to meet demand, is simply untrue.

The stuff on tidal barrages you can find in any standard energy textbook, or in the Severn Barrage consultation documents.

On deaths by nuclear, check out works by Yablokov, Labunska, Blokov, and Chris Busby.

There are people pulling together a detailed numerical critique of the book - I'll post a link if it goes onto the web. The professor himself has been, how shall we say, not entirely warm and receptive to having his mistakes pointed out by people.

Smart meters have a great future and there is a big market for them. The question is can Bglobal profitably capture a significant share of this market or will they be just a secondary also ran ?

Sorry, well O/T here - but on nuclear toxicity, there's very little scientific consensus on the effects of cumulative low dosing, hence the huge range of uncertainty on Chernobyl deaths.

And "Hot Air" isn't cold-hearted science. It's cold-hearted PR for nuclear, against renewables, and the numbers are twisted to suit his agenda.

O dear, he does like heat pumps and no mistake!

thanks for your reply.... problem my 'friend' (wife) has relates to toxicity and nuclear - no methodology accepts nuclear, as from what I understand, the 'solution' of burying the albeit small nasty portion of waste for 1000 years doesn't seem a particularly sound one

he is being taken very seriously, in terms of 'cold-hearted' science, hence his 'without the hot air' stance, but if you're telling me he's full of errors, my my!

soz for o/t

why should I buy here? it's AIM after all...

interesting - what is Mackay wrong about? only ask as someone I know has been told to read his book in relation to environmental profiling, particularly nuclear

MacKay's wrong about quite a few things, but he's right that smart meters are a good thing.

See also for another way to present your energy use data, as well as carbon comparisons.

I'm tempted here

particularly after reading David MacKay - he's fan too (of smart meters)

Interesting results! The three most bullish point seem to be:

1. Strong corporate meter business base underpinned by a forward order book of
120,000 meter installations, compared with 100,000 plus back in April's trading
statement.

2. The development of a smart meter for the massive domestic consumer market.

3. The Government's declared intention to ensure everyone has smart meters.

Given B Global can keep ahead of their competition, it is difficult to find a better growth prospect in these difficult times.

BGLOBAL ACCELERATES SMART METER INSTALLS FOR NPOWER

Bglobal plc (AIM:BGBL) the market-leading provider of smart metering services to the UK energy market is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached with npower to accelerate the introduction of smart meters for their business customers. During the year to date, Bglobal has installed several thousand smart meters for npower's large corporate energy customers. The early phase of the installation programme has been successful and npower now plans to increase the rate of roll out, combining smart metering with a range of innovative energy services.

Tony Barnes, Group Chief Executive of Bglobal, comments: 'We have built our business to provide not only the best smart metering technology available but also the best service, through an end-to-end solution that goes from meter acquisition and installation right through to the provision of billing and settlement data. npower has ambitious plans for the business sector and Bglobal is delighted to be the power behind their smart metering programme as it expands.'

Dave Ford, Head of Metering Development at npower said: 'With energy management increasingly on everyone's agenda, getting a greater understanding of consumption and visibility of its use is vital to effectively manage costs. Working closely with Bglobal has enabled npower to implement a range of innovative and cost effective new services for our customers and now we now want to bring these to the wider business community.'

BGLOBAL LAUNCHES NEW 'ENERGY COUNTS' VISION FOR SMART METER DELIVERY

Bglobal plc (AIM:BGBL) the market-leading provider of smart metering services to the UK energy market announces the launch of its new Energy Counts campaign for business customers seeking to comply with UK Government directives on carbon reduction.

Bglobal's vision is to make Energy Count for all customers and today launches a strategy to help businesses across Britain get ready for the Carbon Reduction Commitment Challenge through smart metering adoption. Some 20,000 businesses will receive letters from the Government in September this year informing them that they may be on the new league table consisting of 5,000 carbon emitters who will potentially pay penalties if they don't make moves to measure, manage and reduce their carbon emissions.

As part of this scheme, money collected from participants for carbon emission allowances is recycled back to the participants based on their overall performance. Therefore, a company that achieves significant energy and carbon savings is likely to receive a payment greater than the cost of purchasing their allowances. In contrast, companies that do not reduce their carbon emissions will receive less than they paid into the scheme.

Bglobal has launched a new corporate image centering its messages on the Energy Counts vision statement. The site can be found at www.bglobalmetering.com.

Tony Barnes, Bglobal Group Chief Executive, commented: 'The message is clear - be ready or pay the penalty. Installing Bglobal smart meters is the first step towards getting ready for the CRC challenge.'

'Energy Counts is a powerful vision for Bglobal. Not only does it capture the essence of what we do in our core metering and energy services business, it also expresses that energy management has never been more important, and that our personal energy and passion is important in the way we deliver for our customers.'
