Not surprised over priced nothing special chocolates. Good riddance to another foreign-owned business ripping off our consumers

Chocolate shop chain Thorntons is to shut all its 61 stores in Britain and Northern Ireland, putting 603 jobs at risk.

nick100: yup. They are also allowed the next business day.No "it's started" RNS required as the principle and all particulars are already in the public domain.First we'll know will be the first/opening transaction RNS.

They have to RNS every day when they buy back and the price they have bought at,as I remember when Lloyds had done its buyback

Quilter have been doing a buy back and it's done very similar to how Lloyds did it.

They purchased 15% of the daily share sales and they sent out a daily RNS on the amount they purchase, with the highest and lowest share price they paid.

I am assuming something similar...

Manics : Do you think they will they have to RNS every day they buy back or simply announce when 'its starting' ?

As i said before, I would be happy with the ave broker price target for barc : 221p

I think everyone realises that the economies across the globe are going to have a 6month + boom once the vaccines properly kick in and life starts to open up ... hopefully the UK will lead Europe !

FWIW, I feel that the ftse could be back up to 7500 by the summer if not before...we just need the rollout to motor along and the sun to come out !! imo of course .. with my rose tinted glasses back on ! 😎

No way will they do one big buy. It'll cost average over a period of time, as is normal for a buy back program.

Think they have a certain limit as to how many shares they can buy back daily...they can't do one big swoop..

10,000 retail chain stores close during pandemic

Just under 10,000 chain stores disappeared from Great Britain’s retail locations in 2020, amid a warning that the full impact of the pandemic is still to be felt as further ‘temporarily closed’ stores may not re-open.

baggiebird1 : thats a good vaccine count so far, UK needs to keep this momentum going.

Be very interesting to see how this buyback news pans out and the squeeze created on the share price as a result of the purchase. As manics said, If its the full £700m then this is a lumpy amount of shares.

baggiebird1:

"Barclays has also announce its intention to initiate a share buyback up to £700m, expected to commence in Q1 2021."

Two ambiguous elements: "intention" and "up to". I don't think anyone's expecting them to buy all £700m in one hit though! They'll go for a cost average.
