13/12/2024 11:40 | Economic fallout is growing from the GD's violent efforts to crush protests against its decision to suspend Georgia's EU membership bid. Tourism sector, a key revenue source, being hit hard by cancelled bookings to the point that businesses are saying they can't pay landlords and other creditors, asking for deferment. Ski season about to start and could be affected too unless govt. | 2000skoot

05/12/2024 05:12 | It's desperate stuff from Kaladze to talk about 'reunifying' just after GD has divided the country with a fraudulent election win and suspended the EU membership bid. More broadly, the GD have been in power for 12 years claiming their more 'pragmatic' approach to Russia would result in better relations and Georgia getting its occupied lands back--including Abkhazia. Instead, Russia has kept grabbing more Georgian territory along the so-called occupation line. Georgians would love to have normal relations with Russia, it's just that they have 200+ years experience of the opposite. And that Abkhaz vote is interesting timing --they're showing they're less and less keen at being under Russian control, the passage of time starting to wear away some bad memories when they were still fully part of Georgia | 2000skoot
04/12/2024 20:59 | 2000skoot, I have read that GD may seek to reunify Georgia. ''recently the GD Secretary General, Kakha Kaladze, said that GD’s ‘pragmaticR Also the abkhazia region recently stopped a law allowing russian property ownership. Any comment? Thanks | flyfisher
03/12/2024 16:26 | The only foreign military installations on Georgia's territory are the Russian bases on two chunks of Georgia that it occupies. You see them when you drive east-west. It's to protect themselves against Russia that Georgians have wanted to join EU-NATO. Right now NATO is off the cards and probably rightly so. But the majority want to keep the EU path open, hence the continuing resignations from the government | 2000skoot
03/12/2024 11:22 | No, I'm "channeling" what I see happening. | kernelthread
03/12/2024 10:08 | prices are almost as high as before the agent law but now there is true political instability. I wonder who is buying now, seems risky. | zockempire
03/12/2024 05:16 | Not true at all. You're channeling the GD's talking points | 2000skoot
03/12/2024 00:09 | All they have to do is not have foreign military installations on their territory. The problem is, that's what the US and EU want them for - they don't actually give a stuff about Georgia, they just want to turn them into another Ukraine. But who would want to sign up for that? | kernelthread
02/12/2024 23:12 | Somehow 'behaving as an authoritarian' got copy pasted into the wrong place. The question still to be answered is how far he will go to hang on. | 2000skoot
02/12/2024 23:07 | His legacy is Georgia's efficient public services, largely free of petty corruption and, indirectly, BGEO and TBC banks, which grew off the back of his reforms. Saakashvili created the foundations for the Georgia of today which the current GD government happily built on. If you've been to Tbilisi, the big mushroom roofed Public Service Hall is one of the physical signs, where you can get a property purchase registered or a new passport far more efficiently than most other places. But Saakashvili overstepped and became an authoritarian, abusing his powers to go after his opponents as well as falling into a trap and war with Russia. That laid the ground for the ascent of Ivanishvili (who had previously bankrolled Saakashvili's reforms). But now Ivanishvili is overstepping and abusing his powers, putting much of the country's progress in danger. And so the wheel turns and behaving as an authoritarian | 2000skoot
02/12/2024 20:11 | Thanks for the reply, What is the lasting legacy of his predecessor? | flyfisher
02/12/2024 17:26 | Plus Ivanishvili the oligarch in charge and his GD had an excellent foundation to build on after the sweeping reforms implemented by the previous president Saakashvili, who subsequently overstepped but still left a lasting legacy | 2000skoot
02/12/2024 17:23 | Because GD is ultimately the creation and the creature of one man who made his billions in Russia and his interests in maintaining his wealth and influence. That is not a recipe for stability | 2000skoot
02/12/2024 14:25 | Over the last 10 yrs USA GDP per capita has grown 48%. Over the same time span Georgia GDP per capita has grown 109%. The country appears to have done well under the direction of georgia dream. Why not trust them to steer a neutral path forward. | flyfisher
02/12/2024 11:42 | BGEO and its main competitor TBC have come out in support of maintaining the EU, pro-Western path. So could pay price if GD succeeds. But the root of all this is the oligarch who set up the GD and is still the ultimate power. He is holding that country hostage to his interests and tacking towards Russia as a result, defying the consistent 75-80 percent majority for joining the EU over past decade. BGEO and TBC are both great banks but both will be vulnerable until this question of the country's path is resolved | 2000skoot
30/11/2024 13:01 | >>A fast-growing bank on a PE below 4 doesn't need EU accession to be successful. It >>just needs its country to not be invaded by its neighbour... As long as they stay neutral and don't allow themselves to be used as a US/EU proxy they won't be. I think Georgian Dream have figured that out, which is why the US and EU are sponsoring protests and sanctioning them. | kernelthread
30/11/2024 11:07 | It was in the post results presentation and conference call, a recording of it is on the BGEO website. | flyfisher

30/11/2024 04:32 | How long is the 'buy back' set to continue here does anyone know? | leedsu36
29/11/2024 11:08 | Buying opportunity today. A fast-growing bank on a PE below 4 doesn't need EU accession to be successful. It just needs its country to not be invaded by its neighbour... | craigso
28/11/2024 09:59 | Very much appreciated, thanks. | leedsu36 |
