08/1/2014 16:13 | rat attack .. thanks for this ... I read the problem about script dividend from the site here and wrote to AJ Bell over the weekend ... .. I already complained to AJ Bell about the 'fees' .. since I moved to them because of the zero fees .. so I will look to move out if their service continues to be cheap & far from cheerful ... | keith95
08/1/2014 12:00 | keith95/M1das_Touch - AJ Bell have just started charging for sipps so whilst I can accept (but dislike) their previous position with regard to the scrip div, I now think there is the potential for legal action if they are charging and not providing shareholders with the service to take up the scrip. When I moaned last time around I got the response "what do you expect from a cheap and cheerful account" - pretty poor staff reaction, but surely this no longer applies with charging!? Be interesting to see what happens this time around. | rat attack
08/1/2014 10:16 | Hargreaves Lansdown also offer the scrip option | lynton3
08/1/2014 09:55 | Yes, it's one of the frustrations with AJ Bell - which is why I hold these in my ISA with Interactive Investor, who do give the scrip option. 1000p in 5 years time is perhaps wishful thinking, but I certainly expect the re-rating to continue over time particularly as Santander is a great play on emerging markets growth. In the interims back in July, the Chairman said "Profits rose after more than two years of high levels of write-offs and reinforcement of capital. We are preparing for a new period of profit growth." | m1das_touch
08/1/2014 09:46 | I might be wrong but my hope is if they have held the div this long why on earth would they want to cut it now. Fingers crossed on that issue. Also 5 year chart gives us a big bowl pattern which might take us back to 1000p in 5 years time. Wishful thinking probably. | its the oxman
08/1/2014 09:33 | Depends if you hold this in a SIPP like AJ Bell (Scroll back to earlier posts) who don't give the script option ... Anyway ... as I said .. even if the dividend is cut in half its still a good return cf other banks .. and the cutting of dividends would mean the bank keeps more money for a rainy day in Brazil (or the rain in spain on the plain etc.). | keith95
08/1/2014 09:30 | You need to bear in mind that at some point the company may stop offering the scrip dividend. This could possibly happen in 2015. If it were to happen, then shareholders would have to pay the 21% Spanish withholding tax on cash dividends - reducing the yield from c.9% to c.7.1%. However, BNC is very shareholder-friendly | lynton3
08/1/2014 09:21 | I disagree, I think the dividend is relatively safe - particularly as they've maintained it through the difficult times and now look to be moving back towards a period of growth in profitability. Also a lot of people prefer to take new shares in lieu of cash dividends. | m1das_touch
08/1/2014 09:18 | Bought a few 558p and hope I am not too late to benefit. Three year chart suggests to me a rise to c.650p max over bank reporting season, so ideally hoping for a 10% rise from here. | its the oxman
08/1/2014 09:18 | You have to watch the Ibex with this one .. I don't think the dividend is safe ... I would love to trade this share from within the SIPP because there is no stamp duty to be paid ... but then one should be filling out capital gains forms for spain I suspect (even if within a SIPP) for each trade which is a pain ... so I'm holding what I've got now for good or for bad and just taking the dividend. Even if the divi is cut by 50% its still good - and to be honest - I like the vision of the bank. | keith95
08/1/2014 08:30 | Hi Kieth. Still below recent high. Where do you see this going and any comments on how safe the div is? | its the oxman

26/10/2013 18:09 | CWA1 Please see my post immediately before yours - Selftrade do not allow you to take the scrip option. Hargreaves Lansdowne give you this option automatically (though you can still opt not to take it!) in their ISA accounts | lynton3 |
