18/4/2023 14:35 | Currently 108% up on these but if I sold up I'd then have to find somewhere else to put the funds... and I'd not want to see it all be frittered away. I cannot think of much safer than BAE to be honest and that's looking at a decade+ long outlook. The yield I'm getting on the price I've paid is nice too. | carpingtris
18/4/2023 14:33 | There is also the ol' saying - run your winners ;) | carpingtris
18/4/2023 14:08 | Selling now is good - most people holding BAe for over 2 years would now have a nice return. Cannot see the share price doubling again but like you I will continue to hold onto some shares. | rodbender1
18/4/2023 08:11 | tournesol, thanks for your thoughts, I agree wholeheartedly with what you say. But, Ukraine aside, it wont take many cancelled projects and/or missed contracts or failed bids to send BA. back under £8. Thats not taking into account failing to keep up with, or developing new technology Yes defence spending/commitment has been lacking in the past and needs to be increased. But when peace breaks out again, as it will, that budget is an easy target for cuts. For me I have decided to sell most of my holdings now, keeping a few back as free shares. | ribblewader
17/4/2023 21:48 | Why are some of you looking to sell? Seems to me that there is upwards momentum in the share price and a paradigm shift in the appeal of the defence sector. Pre-Ukraine, most western/Developed countries had become complacent. they didn't see Russia as a real threat and they imagined that Nato was too big and too ugly for anyone to take them on - Even Putin. They might have had niggles about China but they preferred to put them out of their minds and get on with economic business as usual. That's all changed. We now realise that we are under-prepared and under-resourced. Simple things like ammunition stockpiles are woefully inadequate. And whilst Russia is making noise close at hand, China is looking increasingly aggressive further off. I think that western/developed countries will increase defence spending and will maintain it at a higher level. I think that's baked in for the short-medium term and probably for the long term too. I came to BA. later than many/most of you. I bought the day after Russia invaded Ukraine. I am in no rush to sell and think there is a good chance of very significant gains from here. 17/4/2023 18:13 | Approximately 15 working days before the BB is completed to £500m! Possibly to coincide with the trading update which would be a good time to sell. | gurunostradamus
17/4/2023 16:02 | Chiefb, thats my dilemma as well! I do think it will get closer to 11 than it is now but who knows when/if. | ribblewader
17/4/2023 12:05 | Trading update in 2/3 weeks. Going to try to hold off selling any more until then. Unless it gets to 11 squid. But it won't do that. Shirley. | chiefbrody
17/4/2023 10:51 | Well I sold some at 925p, never thought it would be 1025p within a few weeks! | wad collector

14/4/2023 17:08 | 14 Apr 2023 BAE Systems and Microsoft have signed a strategic agreement aiming to support faster and easier development, deployment and management of digital defence capabilities in an increasingly data centric world. The collaboration brings together BAE Systems’ knowledge of building complex digital systems for militaries and governments with Microsoft’s approach to developing applications using its Azure Cloud platform. | malvernwaters
14/4/2023 07:54 | New multi-million pound investment to boost technologies for the UK’s future combat aircraft The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has awarded a contract extension worth £656 million to BAE Systems to progress the concepting and technology of the next generation combat aircraft, known as Tempest in the UK. The new funding will build on the ground-breaking science, research and engineering already completed under the first phase of the contract delivered by UK Tempest partners BAE Systems, Leonardo UK, MBDA UK and Rolls-Royce. | ribblewader
12/4/2023 16:34 | Well Squidsgone you did point out that Typhoon question at the recent BAe meeting. I think it is still a real opportunity from what I see but at the same time I also think it’s this year or never. The German ban was the holdup but that hurdle now seems clear. The Saudi’s have the money and a large Tornado fleet. Tornado will need replacing. Question is do they have sufficient other aircraft till Tempest hits the skies. | rodbender1
12/4/2023 12:35 | rodbender1 That one has been around for many years - is it still a real opportunity? | squidsgone
12/4/2023 08:26 | Leonardo launches future fighter AI challenge Run in collaboration with the MOD, the Combat Air Artificial Intelligence Challenge is seeking applications from SMEs, start-ups and academia. Winners could receive funding for six-month pilot projects, with the potential to continue working with Leonardo longer term. Ultimately, the company hopes the competition can feed into Leonardo’s involvement with the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) to develop a new fighter jet for the UK, Italy and Japan by 2035. | ribblewader
06/4/2023 16:01 | Luckily we are getting both :) | carpingtris
06/4/2023 15:50 | A Saudi follow on Typhoon order would be the icing on this £10 cake. | rodbender1
06/4/2023 10:59 | IMO it shouldn't cause a drop in price based on fundamentals, massive order book. However if there was significant price drop ( incorrectly programmed Algo's ) then I would be be buying / topping up. | andyadvfn1
06/4/2023 09:48 | Just sold a chunk at £10 this morning - thats this years CG allowance used up a few hours after it started lol. I've sold half my BAE holdings over the last couple of months but still have the same amount invested as I started with thanks to the rise in the share price the last couple of years. BAE makes up 40% of my entire stocks portfolio, still high but down from the ridiculous 80% it was earlier this year. | boomorbust1
06/4/2023 08:54 | A hint today in the papers that Ukraine may be willing to negotiate with Russia if and when Ukraine forces reach the border of Crimea. Any such ceasefire or end to this conflict is likely to have massive effects upon western stock markets. Positively in the main I would expect, but unsure if such would cause a drop in BAe share price - at least short-term as the world is stil a dangerous place. | mcunliffe1
06/4/2023 08:21 | For a while last week I thought this could retrace down to £9 or poss lower but, here we are at the magical tenner! | ribblewader
05/4/2023 11:10 | Well at least it’s trying to breakthrough into the 4 figure territory ! The BB is right behind you. | gurunostradamus |
