17/2/2023 12:10 | squidsgone Yes any profits on shares bought under the scheme were not subject to tax when you left the company, the share price at the the time of leaving became your starting point moving forward if you decided to keep them. Dividends reinvested as well under the acheme. RW - I think your right the maximum number of matching shares used to be limited to £62pm, though they increased this to £75pm a few years before I left. | ![]() boomorbust1
17/2/2023 11:14 | RW Sounds like a nice deal for the half price buys. I suspect there may have also been some kind of tax wrapper around them whilst still employed too. Congrats all round. | ![]() squidsgone
17/2/2023 10:43 | Squid, true. When i did the sell/buy into my ISA the price was above my average buy. BUT the share scheme allowed you to buy a monthly amount (of cash, not shares) which was then matched by the company, so you were getting two for the price of one. The company matching your ammount was limited to a max of £62 (I think) per month, but you could put as much in as you wanted, up to a % of your wage. | ![]() ribblewader
17/2/2023 09:51 | RW / boomorbust1 The CGT test would be when the shares are sold, buying them and back at the same price in an ISA only protects from CGT from that point onwards, ie. whilst in the ISA. | ![]() squidsgone
17/2/2023 08:19 | boomorbust1. Yes, I paid into the share option scheme as soon as I could (after 2 years if I recall correctly). They have bought a few holidays and cars over the years! I also managed, through Lloyds, to sell then buy back the same qty directly into my shares ISA at the same price I sold them for. You might want to look into that option, if it still exists. No need to worry about CGT then! | ![]() ribblewader
17/2/2023 00:34 | Did the same as you Ribblewader though a decade earlier in 1990, then paid into the share option scheme right up until my retirement just over 2 years ago. Unfortunately I needed to sell some over the years but on retirement I bought back all that I had sold with my severance - at under £5. Since they hit £8 I have been selling again including another chunk yesterday, but only enough to stay within the capital gains allowance. They still make up 50% of my entire portfolio and have been my best investment but will sell more when the new tax year starts. At my age I need high income stocks in ISAs but thanks to the share price rise over the last couple of years the 2.85% divi is no longer that attractive. | ![]() boomorbust1

16/2/2023 15:41 | Got some that I bought a decade ago . Bit of a different story , rags to riches back to rags again. Other than partly in the same sector, rather little in common . Over the years it has been hard to work out what they are trying to be , support services or manufacturers? They keep rather overactive in M&A and have managed to make large losses despite being in defensive sectors in the last 3 yrs. 16/2/2023 11:49 | wad. It helps that my RR. and BT.A are starting to perform, just need LLOY to get a grip and I'll be well happy. Dont worry, still got a few K of BAE held back! | ![]() ribblewader

15/2/2023 23:09 | It was easier for me and I wanted the funds for another kind investment. So simply put, sold some BAE to find another good thing. If there's a ceasefire tomorrow then BAE will obviously tank a bit (long term it still looks good though, such is the world today so I'd imagine it would be a temporary blip). As it is, I personally don't believe the powers that be want a ceasefire Amy time soon. therefore, I think the share price will stay at these levels, or possible rise more, in the short term. If this war is still rumbling on in 5 years and countries are increasing their defence budgets, the share price could rise another 50% in the coming years. | ![]() chiefbrody
15/2/2023 23:01 | They say never to fall in love with a share but maybe it is time to sell a few ? Although this is a great long term investment, it is hard to imagine there aren't some further bumps in the ride ahead. How to time buying in again is the problem. Not much point in buying back for a couple of percent profit at the risk of watching it move away again. But equally galling to watch the current gains fall back. So indecision rules my plans. | ![]() wad collector

15/2/2023 15:31 | Combined capability will significantly enhance aircraft survivability against advanced threats BAE Systems, Inc. and Leonardo UK recently received U.S. government approval to develop an interoperable aircraft survivability suite consisting of BAE Systems’ AN/AAR-57 Common Missile Warning System (CMWS) and Leonardo’s Miysis Directed Infrared Countermeasure (DIRCM) System. The combined capability will significantly enhance aircraft survivability against advanced threats. “This layered defense against new and advanced threats will protect aircraft and their crews in the most complex battlespaces,” said Chris Austin, director of Integrated Survivability Solutions at BAE Systems. “Using interoperable, combat-proven systems is a smart, efficient, and cost-effective aircraft survivability solution for our international customers.” | ![]() ribblewader
