A £317m contract to develop the next generation of radar for the Royal Air Force's (RAF) Eurofighter Typhoons will sustain hundreds of jobs and develop technologies for the UK’s Future Combat Air System.
BAE Systems and Leonardo have been awarded a contract to develop the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA), the European Common Radar System Mark 2(ECRS Mk2) radar, to a standard ready to be integrated on to RAF Typhoons.

So rumours of the demise of the tank are misplaced. Well it is a bit of a renamed tank with a mortar and other options.
Wouldn't want to stand in front of one to protest.

Adam, yes they have price increments based on agreed prices at various dates of the contract.

For UK contracts/programs

So a contract to support say Hawk will have an agreed price set on a date at contract start (say 2015) will be paid at that rate +/- five years of economic change in 2020. The increase will be mutually agreed at joint project management level. But this will also include agreed performance targets achieved, or not!

Most MoD support contracts are managed via MoD Abbey Wood, inflation TBH is not that much of an issue and is fairly easy to manage throughout the life of the contract.

Programs (Design, develop, deliver new "things" such as Tempest) are a different matter but still have price escalation built in, generally via government control through Abbey Wood. Budget cuts, via government spending issues is a bigger challenge.

US contracts are generally fixed price, fixed term. Its then up to the company to achieve the aim and deliver the delivery.

PE now sub 12x for this year if you believe the forecasts. Its starting to get tempting to add more.

Question for those who know the sector well: would BAe typically have price escalation clauses in contracts in case inflation is higher? Conscious that there is a considerable lag between signing a contract and doing the work, so wanted to understand the profit risk to BAe from higher inflation
Thanks

Even if the number of F35's bought by the UK fell to zero, BAE would still be involved in the manufacture of them for the rest of the world.

sp might have been influenced today by media scare story that UK order for F35 might be cut back to 70 from the official requirement for 138.
