Ribble you sold some BAe ? Is that not heretical? Mind you a new 18 month might be a good exit point. Personally I want 675 before I sell any....

Could be a good move. Hold both. You would think BT was on the brink of nationalisation/collapse if one was to look at the share price graph.Absolutely terrible. No guessing how much longer the bloodbath will continue. Sub £1 looks possible :-(Feels much more comfortable looking at my BAE holding!

RW: many thanks for the research briefing on naval shipbuilding. As an ex-shipbuilder I was amused that they are finally coming clean on the sleight of hand whereby "in service" morphed into "in the water". 2023 as an inservice date was never going to happen, and there is all the difference in the world between the two terms, and especially for complex naval vessels. I know that the build times for current new construction are heavily influenced by budgetary considerations, nevertheless the leisurely pace (given the dire need for the new capabilities) is quite extraordinary.

I remember that we built the Polaris boats back in the day for an average build time of about 4.5 years. They were about the same size (displacement) as the Type 26, and having worked on 2 of those boats, there is no way that the Type 26 is so much more complex than a SSBN that it takes twice as long to build and get into service. Now we are being told that ship 1 of the Type 31 (much less complex) will take 7 years??

British Army and Royal Navy hit by support problems

Warship and army equipment availability in the UK's Royal Navy and British Army has been hit by poor contractor performance, a shortage of spares, and a rising operating tempo, according to the country's Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) organisation.

In its annual report and accounts published on 29 January, DE&S said it had failed to meet key targets in its army and navy maintenance programmes in 2018-19.

"We failed to achieve the British Army sustainability target during the year and a demanding operational tempo was a significant contributing factor for the Navy Command support targets not being met," said the report.
