I remember the Harrogate to Wyton move Northern. What a pain that was for everyone. Then to find them closing Wyton pavillions down was just a total nightmare. Coincided with a manpower reduction if I recall correctly.

I remember several contracts placed by the MoD which were over managed, under funded and took years to appear, then the results were totally under whelming! Both at Harrogate and when procurement was moved to Bristol. Look at Wyton, 10's of millions to convert it from a front line unit to be the supply management centre of the RAF. Now very much shut down. But hindsight does give 20-20 vision as they say!

BAE snaps up two businesses

PA Media

Defence group BAE Systems has announced two deals as it seeks to grow its electronics systems business.

It has agreed to buy Collins Aerospace's Military Global Positioning System business for $1.925bn and Raytheon's Airborne Tactical Radios business for $275m.

The deals are subject to the successful completion of the Raytheon-United Technologies Corporation (UTC) merger, as well as regulatory approval.

BAE chief executive Charles Woodburn said: "These proposed acquisitions present a unique opportunity to add high quality, technology focused businesses to our Electronics Systems sector.

"It's rare that two businesses of this quality, with such strong growth prospects and close fit to our portfolio, become available."

Military spending: Dominic Cummings may have met his match in trying to reform the Ministry of Defence

The British prime minister’s top special adviser Dominic Cummings has set his eyes on reforming the Ministry of Defence (MoD). In this department, he has chosen a particularly difficult target to hit – and one that has eluded attempts to change it for decades.

Yeh it's on the Business feed but usually little else. Should be championing a UK company buying something American when it's usually the other way around!

Hardly surprising though given how anti good news/defence, the likes of the BBC are.

Both businesses have strong growth outlooks driven by close alignment with the priorities outlined in the US National Defense Strategy, Congressional mandates to upgrade existing capabilities and a presence on a substantial installed base of products and platforms in the US and with allied nations. Both transactions would be expected to be immediately earnings and cash accretive.

All very quiet here, given today's announcement on the acquisition front. Any views? Looks positive to me and initial market reaction echos that perspective. Nice that BA today pushes the portfolio into positive territory against the flow of most my other holdings.

Cheers,
PJ
