25/1/2018 11:26 | The Norwegian State Fund is 'free' to choose who it invests in. Having said that, I believe some of these changes are due to new laws in Norway. Honestly, why should we care and why does it make news? The press are to blame for apparently viewing this fund as being on a pedestal or taking the right moral high-ground, which it doesn't. Quite frankly, if I can make money out of BAE for making 1st class weapons then great. If some nation wants to threaten us, and diplomacy isn't going to work, than I am more than happy to have invested in technology that will melt them into history. We can strap numpty Abbot onto the first warhead. | minerve
25/1/2018 08:18 | It used to have the Union Jack but the Saudis complained. They do not allow a cross anywhere in kingdom. Ans BAE had them on overalls and everywhere. So they had to change the logo. But that was years ago now. | vikingwarrier

05/1/2018 13:46 | Supersonic. Hypersonic Is the U.S. Military's New Speed This article by Justin Bachman for Bloomberg may be of interest to subscribers. Here is a section: Boeing Co.’s XS-1 (Experimental Spaceplane), which the company dubs “Phantom Express,” got a green light this week by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, or Darpa. The XS-1 is designed to quickly lift satellites as heavy as 3,000 pounds into orbit for $5 million or less, launching from the ground, deploying a small upper-stage module, and then landing like a traditional airplane—the key to reuse and lower operating expense. Darpa also has a separate program aimed at launching 100-pound satellites for less than $1 million per launch, using conventional aircraft. “The XS-1 would be neither a traditional airplane nor a conventional launch vehicle but rather a combination of the two, with the goal of lowering launch costs by a factor of ten and replacing today’s frustratingly long wait time with launch on demand,” Jess Spoonable, a Darpa program manager, said in a May 24 statement. Eoin Treacy's view It has long occurred to me that the stealth bomber had its maiden flight in the late 1980s, but only entered service years later. Then I think about how different the original iPhone is from what I carry around. | fangorn2
05/1/2018 13:40 | Ultra Electronics Holdings, down 7.7%. The defence contractor's shares were lower amid a report that the UK defence review has been delayed. "The real driver for this morning's down move may in fact be last night's news of a delay to the UK defence review while solutions are sought for a GBP20 billion funding black hole at the MoD, and amid political backlash since the internal appointment of chief Tory whip Gavin Williamson as defence secretary," said Accendo Markets analyst Mike Van Dulken. Ultra will release a trading statement next Thursday. Peer Cobham was down 2.5%. "Defence review delayed. This blackhole is due to Trident renewal being included in defence budget isnt it? Best, if that's the case, to fund Trident renewal from general taxation imo. Otherwise our Armed forces will get cut to the bone. Which clearly, given the instability globally, would not be wise at all. | fangorn2 |
