Imagine what would happen here under a Corbyn govt. Mind you , there would be no need for weapons in his peaceful world..
I wonder what message the redundancies send out to prospective and current customers ; faith in the Typhoon?

All disappointing Minerve.

UK Govt should be slashing For Aid and spending 3%-3.5% GDP on Defence imo.War is coming. We are woefully ill prepared.

well charts says its heading back for new highs, maybe wrong, but just look at that chart for the last 7 years. With this going ex divi on 19/10 cant see this being sold off unless the Saudis don't play ball and give some bad news.

Workshare makes sense to keep "the expertise/technology/skills" in the UK BUT you can't do that whilst specifying

1) Max £250 per ship when Equivalent is £300-350m
2) Modular with Export potential being a serious determinant of what is built.

Need to build what UK needs, not what some third party might want. Pointless making export potential amajor factor.

Simply no way pan European modular is cheaper than UK modular. Delays & cost overruns of Tornado & Typhoon evidence that.

Fangorn, Is it cheaper, I suspect so but the main reason is manufacturing capability and (in the case of QE11 class) workshare.

If the modules are scattered across Europe transport costs alone/logistics will make it far more expensive surely?

Or is it cheaper to truck from say Berlin to London, than from London to Clyde?

Yes QE2 delayed on purpose because some halfwit sold off all our harriers on the cheap which would've provided interim air cover whilst waiting for the new F35B!

Fangorn, dont see why that makes cost overruns on Typhoon and Tornado. They are expensive because of support. The QE11 carriers were delayed (on purpose). I doubt if any single nation can now afford to design, build, test and produce a world beating a/c at this time

Typhoon and Tornado are modular - that explains why they're subject to massive cost overruns/long delivery delays!!!

Did the QE2 carrier come in "on time" and "within" budget?

Am more inclined to accept "modular approach" IF it's within UK, rather than the Pan European Typhoon/Tornado structure.

I didn't realise the carriers had been built that way. I am clearly out of date...

Wad, Airbus build modular aircraft. Typhoon and Tornado are and F35. The QE11 carriers appear to be ok with no major assembly issues around the modules.

Prefabricated sections being constructed at different sites sounds like a recipe for trouble!
It isn't just the steel ; most of the cablework and pipework needs pre-installation
. What a quality control nightmare , imagine if one yard gets the spec slightly wrong . Not easy to look in the next dock to check how they are doing it. Maybe the new world of IT makes these sort of errors unlikely but I wonder if it will save any money . Wouldn't want to get in aircraft built that way.
