With the 146/RJ and then the Airbus partnership being so successful I cant see them developing a commercial aircraft anytime in the near future.

Squidsgone, been waiting for the Saudi deal to be signed for the last five years or more! They recently gave a multi billion order to the US which in the past would have seen BAE as a leading contender. But with Trump upsetting the Middle East apple cart he may have annoyed the Saudi's so much that they do actually sign the Typhoon order this time around, but I would not bet that its in the time line Fearny quoted

BAE Systems

When Trump promised to go on the offence in terms of defence as part of his election pledge, BAE Systems' (BA.) bottom line was always destined to receive a timely boost. As one of the biggest defence contractors globally, it also ranks amongst the sixth-largest suppliers to the US Department of Defence.

It has a 17% share of America's $400 billion F-35 programme, a contract which will enhance earnings for many years to come. F-35 deliveries are also tipped to pick up significantly in 2019 and 2020 as production is fully scaled up.

With a $700 billion defence policy bill passed by the Senate earlier this month, BAE is in prime position to benefit from the budget growth as it filters through to contractors.

BAE generates about 40% of its revenues from the US, enjoying an effective duopoly with General Dynamics in the premium US defence land combat market.

Operating primarily as a sub-contractor within the US aircraft and naval space, BAE is a far less dominant player.

It's made an encouraging start under new CEO Charles Woodburn, with the rise in half-year sales and profits beating market expectations. Its key profit measure increased by 5% after adjusting for exchange rate movements.

Despite underlying growth in sales and core profits in all operating divisions, August's results were treated with a degree of caution by some analysts.

Jefferies analyst Sandy Morris said: "While BAE's outlook in the USA is probably positive, that in the UK and Saudi Arabia is arguably not…Unless the world gets scarier still, BAE's overall progress may remain sedate."

Internal plans then .... let's hope each of those customers are working to the same plans, that do have a habit of having their own ideas.

cc half? thats ambitious!
About four years ago I was on a Warton production line managing the return of post major a/c to the customer. We had been waiting for a stop work item needed for the next a/c out. After 3 days I was asked to look at the problem, fairly large assembled item with its own assembly number. Went to stores, got the bits, borrowed a bench, assembled the item, tested and delivered to the a/c. The guy took it off me, took it apart and rebuilt it! When asked why it transpired that the Maintenance Procedure refered to the assembly part and not the individuel parts, which then had to be stripped and inspected so thats what he was doing!

A lack of “vision” from the Government about future combat aircraft in the UK contributed to BAE Systems' decision to axe hundreds of British jobs, MPs have been told. The FTSE 100 defence company announced almost 2,000 redundancies last month, with the bulk of them in its aircraft division. – Telegraph
