Shorting is just the opposite. You don't trust them or think they are doing a bad job..

A short is a stake. As valid as a buy. In fact I also call a short, an investment. Just happens to be in its demise. But a capital input for return nonetheless.

Aviva is down cira 70% on 2002.

Down 55% on 2006

Down 35% on 2018

That so called 'rubbish' has slaughtered the majority of investors for over 17 years.

Value and income. Some did ok...but far more didn t..

The short stake has been on a two decade party

There are people on here posting who don't have much stake in AV. Or they are short. Can we keep the discussion about the company, I don't want to wade thru rubbish.

Are you calling it long from today's price?

Let's see which 20% comes first. I'll even give you a head start. Call it as 360p entry each

@24919 Right! The arrogance is strong. I'd wager you're talking the big talk while taking losses left, right and centre. Sounds like someone's read their first get rich quick book to me. Any tips you want to share to prove me wrong go right ahead! Let's hope you can do better than buywell in that department. Still holding SUN there BW old chap?

Even more important, does money arrive to back percieved values. share price cant go north without that. No matter what the CEO does/promises.

I think a smart CEO let's any pending recession hammer price along with the sector first. Can blame Macro

No point making big promises now when the market may not necessarily bite. No juice left mid recession

Aviva has seen shocking underperformance, however that's the past
and the question is can the new CEO create value from here on in.

So isnt it true to say...based on real term inflation..most retail longterm investors today are taking 100% capital risk...just to maintain cash power

Prices have risen by about 4 times since 1990, therefore the share price will need to be 4 times higher then in was in 1990 just to have stood still.

Took the ftse nearly 20 years to get back to 1997 levels.

Bank sector in general...30-90% down on twenty years ago (by constituent)..retail never came back...

Timing is everything. If you bought ftse tracker 1997 dear oh dear. Bought it 2009? Great.

Timing is important to all market participants.. .just in case it never comes back....

Where do all long-term starts begin? Well has to be in the short-term doesn't it

So how do you invest in long-term then?

Forecast the state of the globe, sector, etc , for the next 5-20 years?

A lot of guesswork too bud. Far more

Calling short term equity market moves is often chance and guesswork,
however this may be a time where having some cash on hand will pay off.
