"Top pension funds refuse to back defence industry"
Some of Britain’s biggest pension firms have been accused of blocking Britain’s plans to boost defence in the wake of the Ukraine war.
Aviva, Royal London and the National Employment Savings Trust (Nest) are among a group of pension giants that restrict or block investment in the defence industry on “ethical” grounds.
The companies, which provide pensions to millions of Britons, say the restrictions apply to select funds and offer customers choice.
However, the fact that defence is excluded on claimed ethical grounds has alarmed ministers and is likely to provoke anger among some customers. |
FWIW :- JPMorgan raises Aviva price target to 635 (615) pence - 'overweight' |
I'm thinking range will be 530 - 550p until further news. |
Yes positive discrimination is still discrimination. Its just the content that’s different.
I think I’ll get some t-shirts printed with that on. |
Not surprised by the upgrade |

Meritocrassy - the new name for wokeness ? :) |
Suspiciously high-pitched tone to that post! |
Very pleased with progress IQ151, but disagreeing with Blanc’s wokeness insisting on her personal sign-off on senior white male candidates being appointed does not make one a misogynist nor impotent!
It’s discriminatory (just imagine if the reverse was the case and she insisted on signing off appointments of black female applicants!) and I don’t want the CEO of my largest holding straying into identity politics, wokeness and potentially exposing the co. to legal risks.
But again, pleased with share price and divi increases and will continue to hold. |
Brava Amanda! And one in the eye for the impotent old misogynists on ADVFN. |
Interesting and positive excerpt from the above referenced link. Bank of America said company metrics and the impact of the “transformational” Direct Line Insurance Group takeover led to a new estimate of 620p, an increase of 5% or 30p on its position prior to Aviva's annual results. At this level, Aviva would trade on 10 times forecast 2026 earnings. The bank said: “The hype with which the business is presented is certainly compelling and we believe the fundamentals back it up. Aviva is in excellent shape on a standalone basis and we believe the acquisition of Direct Line will propel it into the valuation cohort of European composite insurers rather than UK Life insurers.” |
Why Aviva share price is tipped to keep rising |
Direct line results.
DLG motor division returns to profit . Nice one my Dame |
Just logged in at 16:02 without any difficulty |
Sorry for OT here but just wondered if anyone else is having issues logging into ii right now?
Edit - problem seems to be resolved now.. |
lol Fenners - and if there is anything remaining when you leave the nursing home for your final journey, the girl from accounts will want 40% of what's left. |
"> spob 27 Feb '25 - 15:06 - 20774 of 20787 If you pretend inflation is zero then you might double your money. However inflation only goes one way and the spending power of your money only goes down. Doubling your money over ten years is not much better than standing still. Also remember that governments ALWAYS understate the true rate of inflation."
To put a bit of context
IF say Elon Musk was to put all his money into AV (I know he can't) and it doubled in 10 years he would not be worrying about the rate of inflation.
So the price of a dozen eggs may hit £5 that is not going to matter if you already had enough to buy a chicken farm ....
My inference is that inflation affects things that everyone buys - mostly because they have to. Food, heat , light etc.
But there is only so much you can consume and when your investment returns outpace that there remains a real gain......
Which you end up celebrating just in time to pay your nursing home fees and IHT on anything left over.... |
May even finish up today. Nice recovery . |
There is one big difference between gold (& indeed any currency) and BTC. You can hand gold/currency over to settle a transaction, whilst you have to wait for someone who has selected your BTC transaction as part of the block he's trying to verify to complete the verification...and that's only going to get harder when the last BTC is issued |
Err... I was referring to post 20779 |
Great post, yump. :-)) |
Bitcoin has no intrinsic value of course. Like Gold, apart from making a bit of nice jewellery.
Oh hang on, isn't BTC used for some sort of transactions in blockchains. WTF are they, I don't understand them, so BTC must be a load of nonsense, just like the internet was in 1995. |
