PSNs extra divs were coming out of profits generated by the business. NXT had a similar policy of paying their div quarterly.

I think their prices held because the dividend was a recurring item unlike Avivas which is a return of capital.

RCT, AJ Bell are cheap, but as you say on busy days their system can't cope.If you sell and then the next day you reset the clock to get any money you have reinvested. Then you wait up to 5 days to withdraw when you submit your application to withdraw.I will be moving to a more reliable broker.AJ Bell can easily take over 2 weeks to respond to secure messages, as well.

I have been on iDealing for about 20 years. £5 per quarter fee so 75% cheaper than ii and £9.99 to trade. Never had a problem , very responsive to phone and e mail queries. They never seem to get a mention in the comparison tables

Permisson was one of those dishing out £1 extra div per annum.
SP held up well but not sure it was just due to div policy infact if I recall share price nearly doubled

Returning to the question of the capital return.
I don’t think a straight repurchase of shares on the open market is feasible or desirable, I hope they might follow one of 2 routes:
The Tesco route – as per a few months ago.
The other is to copy the housebuilder route of several years back, when they (several housebuilders) set out a dividend timetable for the following 5 years and then paid up to 10pc pa to shareholders. This had the advantage of holding the price high for a long time.
(I say 10 pc – could have been more plus normal divs too)

ii has never given me any problems, although as I tend to buy and hold the £10 a month charge seems expensive.

ajbell/sippdeal have a good online interface and when I have phoned them they have always picked up quickly and dealt with any issues quickly. However on many occasions they have been unable to execute trades that ii are able to give a price on. Back in November on one of the FTSE busy days when there was vaccine news their dealing function collapsed and no one could trade at all.

I have II for my ISA and AJBell/Sippdeal for me SIPP.

In my opinion there are serious issues with sippdeal as their trading platform clearly cannot handle enough trades for the size of their client base.

T212 has a business model based on persuading clients to CFDs, where they make their money. They're currently closed to new clients (wait list).

Freetrade is my recommendation for buy and hold. Lack of live prices prob doesn't suit day trading. Free trades, no platform fee, or £3 a month ISA / £10 a month for access to their full range of stocks including ISA. Phone app only. DYOR obviously.

Wasn't there a free site called iWeb? Not sure about the name or whether it still exists. The user reviews I read weren't too complementary about its responsiveness when trying to place trades in certain situations or getting a response from customer relations but you get what you pay for...

I'm currently with EQI and am being moved to ii. I only trade once or twice a year and was already thinking of moving from EQI to somewhere cheaper because I found their costs somewhat onerous for just parking my ISA with them. Unfortunately an ISA has to be held within some brokerage to exist so does anyone have any suggestions for a cheaper site that suits my lack of trading?

It is one free trade per month with ii I can confirm. I thought it was £7.99 per trade after that though?

I've been trading quite a lot in 2020 and 2021 so the free trade per month doesn't bring down my average dealing costs that much but I foresee doing fewer trades with my SIPP/ISA so hope for something like an effective £5/trade going forward.

I know a day trader who is with with ii and he says he has a better rate with them. Mind you, he bets £10-20k at a time and trades daily... He may be on their 'Super Investor' plan which is £3.99/trade.

Demi,

Agreed.

spookies

The £9.99 Investor plan gets you one free trade - has to be used within 3 months. If you have an ISA and trading account make sure they are linked or you will get charged for each account.

I am being moved to II from EQI, going to see how things pan out in the medium term.
Dont you get two free trades for that 9.99 which if you used them would make II slightly cheaper.
