I wonder how Harvey Jones arrives at a 6.5% yield for AV?
Looks to me more like 5.25% historic or 5.5% prospective (excluding any specials)
....still very decent though

1rob, I think you're the first to mention that this is a sitting duck for a takeover right now. In comes a rich company, they offer us money and shares. We accept and 'self fund'.Seemingly everybody is happy. We get a special divi, so effectively it's just a change of directors. Human nature is generally to take jam today, rather than risk tomorrow.

Hindsight is great , difficult to disagree with that. share price has moved from 250p to 415p this year , so not sure just how undervalued AV now is. If it’s undervalued by say 50% then it may justify buyback and will be good for holders , if it’s 30% undervalued then I’d argue not.

Not trying to create argument , just saying.

For the most part think we’ll all agree we’ve had a nice come back under AB and future looks rosier.

They should have been buying back at way lower prices.

I wasnt suggesting that a buyback would raise the share price
I hate them and I don't think AV will be able to buy back sufficient stock to make any meaningful impact on the financials
....but thats not to say that they will not try, I am afraid

Share buybacks usually won’t move share prices much. It’s normally designed not to by buying small fixed amounts daily so as not to.

Naturally I’d like to see it rocket as it’s my main holding , I bought some to trade bought 404 and sold Friday 415 a small profit but non the less a profit and it brings my average price down.

Whatsup32 you could well be correct
Although I would not be surprised if a Share BuyBack was kick started before
I am not expecting a definitive announcement on Capital Return until November
............Bidders have 3 months to move

Gentlemen

Do not forget that AV can announce the start of a Share BuyBack at any time, as they were given authority to Buy-Back up to 10% of the equity at the last AGM

Although personally I hate Buy-Backs.
It would be sensible for AV to start their Buy-Back soon, as this would give them knowledge of how quickly they can aquire stock AND also reduce the cost of the Special Dividend element of the Return of Capital to Shareholders

Thanks RCTurner2....on av. it looks like a bit of short term trading profit taking before the long weekend here and in the USA. Maybe one can add cheaper next Tuesday as momentum and trust with our CEO is seen as well placed.

Off subject but announced yesterday that Virgin will show the Champions League match tomorrow between Chelsea and Man.City at 8.00 pm, if you are in one of their packages. They must have arranged access via BT Sport. I think the Virgin channel is 532 or 533, and there is no extra charge.

On av. I managed to buy a small parcel of shares at £3.95851 on Wednesday as I really felt that the downside would be very limited whatever the figures revealed the next day. I shall hold like eurofox now for the longer term and likewise with lgen, although I feel the former has more ground to recover against it's peers.

Not everyone is loyal/lazy , some of our senior citizens are not computer savvy and pay a heavy price . This should apply to Telecoms , Broadband and media (Netflix/prime)too.

I’m all for fair play but have no doubt there will be go arounds for those companies.

You're absolutely right, FCA trying to justify their existence. Its a sensible measure to be fair but a nil sum game. Not everyone is lazy though. I am stuck with my building insurer due to a subsidence claim 30 years ago. They (RSA) increased the premium every year until 2019 and it has fallen c 30% over two years

FCA said the changes will save existing insurance customers up to £4.2bn ($6bn) over the next 10 years.

Well, no. It will just mean a redistribution of the cost of renewal to the loyal/lazy, at least in cases where there is no workaround...

This year my Insurance costs are the only thing I've been able to get cheaper than it cost for me last year... Buildings and content & Car insurances were significantly cheaper for me this year...

council Tax, water, gas & electric bills have all gone up quite a lot ...

So there has been good competition between the insurance companies this year which is good for all involved imho.
