390 is too high an entry price. Look at price chart since XD date. I'm looking at sub 370

I also read it as a positive PR story. Sure enough, there's a press release on the subject on the corporate website. Article seems to be lifted from that.

Re: 'aviva-makes-claims-payout-record-252940.aspx'

Looks to me more like a PR effort to me, showing what a 'Policyholder Friendly' company Aviva is....and by the way, don't expect any softening of premiums!!

£982m paid out (google search) in 2019 and £1,043m in the above link. It may be a record but actually looks very flat to me; probably down on inflation adjusted figures. .....but that would not be news.

Can anyone check those numbers?

Thanks (I think!)
I suspect I would fail on age grounds

If anyone interested on my thread I laid out an idea for writing equity options off covered forex positions. They are therefore all covered by cash - no leverage.
(An idea means DYOR etc).

1robbob, you should apply for a job as an analyst at some of these brokers. You do it so much better

whatsup - I am a writer - September; the breakeven is the net of premium.

Answer to the above - I am interested in the yields from option writing - both bull and bearish positions. You will therefore close out for the pennies for the main gain and not hold to maturity.

Good question and if you see it as a screaming buy at this price why did you exit "some weeks back"

Alphorn, if you don’t my asking when does your options expire and how can you have break even of 365p given current price £4.

Having exited Aviva some weeks back also see the current share price underpinned by the yield. Opened a new bullish position, via options, with a breakeven of 365p.

For the price to move forward from here, we need greater visability of the growth prospects of the slimmed down group and the timing and method of the Capital Return

Hopefully these will come either in the AGM Statement on 6th May or the Q1 Update on 27th May.

I think info on the Capital Return to be more meaningful in pushing the share price as I expect the market to be sceptical of any 'growth' propects, until they are actualy being delivered.

The current prospective yield of circa 5.5% underpins the current share price, with the Capital Return in for nothing, so visability on that is crucial for the market to begin to factor it into the share price...How much? How ? When?

It seems that the broker downgrade is causing a nibble at the share price? I don't agree with it and there are plenty of other recent broker upgrades. Another buying opportunity?

All of the good news is in the price for Aviva PLC (LON:AV.) or for now at least says UBS, which has downgraded to hold from buy even though its target price rises. Restructuring following the sales of its overseas businesses is now in the price, says the Swiss broker, and the focus now switches to operational improvements. To achieve that will require a shift in business mix, in UBS’s view, which will take time to deliver with untested complexities and investment/M&A needed. Aviva, however, is better placed than rival L&G PLC(LON:LGEN), which UBS rates as a sell. L&G’s share price has bounced on rising rates, benign credit risk and positive regulatory noises but earnings ratings appear full and cash/capital analysis points to pressure on dividend forecasts. Targets are 420p for Aviva and 240p for L&G compared to market prices today of 407.6p and 278.8p respectively.

Perhaps we could have a link to the study.

Vic Reeves: “88.2% of statistics are made up on the spot”.

40% of what though ?

40% of all the companies floated on all exchanges?
Just UK?
Including AIM and every company that sees a quick buck?

What about relative market caps though ?
What % of the value of the market outperformed cash rather than the number of the companies including all the dross?
What about companies that get taken over?

Clearly the catch all statistic , is if you invest in the FTSE , which in itself of course filters out the losers then you blow cash away....

I would be surprised if that statistic were correct -whenever I hear or see the word economist these days I just think of a clueless person

Some economist has done a major study which showed only 40% of stocks performed better than cash in the last 30 years. I reckon with interest rates at rock bottom that number will change. Simply buying and holding Aviva will put you well ahead.

Oldfellow, I still hold a huge chunk of Aviva in my main account that I purchased at much higher prices.
I also have a small account for trading . In and out of Glaxo and Aviva has returned good results.
