Very nice article DantheBear.
Great that we are getting some good coverage, as in the Gardian piece highlighted the other day.

Thanks for posting it.

And then add £5 - £10 for each subsequent saltelite - if not more as there shouldn't be any more dilution.

I am overweight for a 10 year SIPP hold.

HYLAS 2 launched successfully

Avanti Communications' second satellite, HYLAS 2, was successfully launched from the European Spaceport, Kourou, French Guiana on Ariane Flight VA208 yesterday at 9.54pm (UK time).

Avanti comments: "The Ariane 5 launch was perfect, injecting HYLAS 2 into the correct orbit precisely on schedule. HYLAS 2 separated from the Ariane 5 on time and telemetry was received at the control centre at the European Spaceport".

CEO David Williams: "I'm delighted that our second satellite, HYLAS 2, has been successfully launched and is operating under our control. It will now undertake a series of pre-planned in orbit acceptance tests over the coming three months before we commence service for customers. HYLAS 2 will provide high speed data capacity across Africa, Caucasia and the Middle East. This service changes everything in the data markets in those regions that have previously left companies, Governments and consumers poorly served. The comparatively attractive economic backdrop and huge unmet demand evident in these regions give us great confidence that our decision to move into emerging markets was the right one, and our early mover advantage should drive strong profitability."

HYLAS 2 has a capacity of 8,280MHz, compared to HYLAS 1 at 3,000 MHz, and cost £214m (HYLAS 1: £120m). We estimate initial run rate annual revenue of (95% capacity) £165m compared to £56m for HYLAS 1. Of our 2,052p DCF-based valuation, we ascribe:

o 19% of value, 400p, to HYLAS 1;

o 53% of value, 1,079p, to HYLAS 2;

o 28% of value, 574p, to HYLAS 3 (launch in 2016(E)).

Satellite capital costs are high but the HYLAS fleet is fully-funded and insured. Assembly and launch are conducted by expert technical professionals. The expected operating lifetime of each satellite is some 15 years. Demand for broadband services, notably mobile and internet in emerging markets should burgeon during the coming decade. Overall, Avanti offers a profitable and secure earnings stream that captures this demand. Buy.

So a lot of risk is removed by the successful launch and the share price goes sharply down before recovering a fair bit. Bought a few more in the trough. Gotto laugh else you'd cry. With investing in shares, expect the unexpected.
=================

it was very expected, traders will trade and they will turn to the next play thats the nature of the game. On the other hand investors will invest, with broker targets some 400% higher than current share price the investment case is compelling...more compelling to me than trying to trade it

I think/hope today's share price action will have flushed out most of the 'launch traders'. Now can we have a steady rise from here please Mr Market? I really really don't want any more bargains!

Hi Colva,

A profit is a profit as you well know and a quick profit in a day is not to be ignored :-)

With AVN we there is no telling what will happen from one day to the next as I think we all well know but as you rightly say Colva long term is where the big profit should be........but lots of little profits all add up :-)

Hi Yorgi,

Sold them at 384.24p just before the close.

Holding over the longer term is where the real money will be made here but hopefully there'll be opportunities like today to trade in and out for a quick profit.

I am smuggly looking back at my post launch prediction in post 9812. Anyway, I went to the website just to see if there was any contract news release given that they don't RNS them and it looks like H2 wasn't the only thing launched last week. Check out the new look and focus on Africa and Mid East - a service provision they could not boast about until 4 days ago.

unlikely to be news for a few weeks now so s/t traders selling out I guess - if this comes back much I'm having some more, it's already my biggest SiPP position as it is.
