Backmarker ever since I've been watching/in AVN I have thought the movements in the share price during the day often hard to understand but I'm quite confident we are heading back up now......and very confident for the longer term we will be so I don't worry about it.

I'm with Someuwin and see 700p very soon

seems to be a bit of a pattern to the AVN trading day.

starts high, falls away, then perks up at the end.

not sure what it's telling me. but as long as eod shows a plus then I'm not really concerned.

Avanti's own words

•The market for satellite broadband products in the markets served by Avanti is estimated at more than 100 million households.
Funding granted I thought to ensure people in rural areas could get high speed Broadband.

Avanti talk of 350,000 individual customers capabilty.

Eutel estimates 1000,000 customers at 100 euro's per customer (on a maximum capacity)

Avanti 350,000 customers at £150 (180 euro's) per customer.

Both via Tooway

I see the £50m estimated for Hylas 1 fully loaded. But if the going rate is far less with Eutel who is right???.

I don't know. It's a big difference and could effect the speed at which Hylas 1 contracts are taken up.

Ignore it if you wish

I knew there would be answers, the blinkers are firmly on. Why are the tipsters backtracking.

All talk of broadband not spots. So back up for businesses should they need it eqautes to a higher revenue than constant use, does it.

They sell 'wholesale' to the service providers but somehow the figures come out about 40% above eutels estimates.

Eutel talk of 700,000 customers to break even ????

I'm absolutely sure the BOD know what they are doing and don't doubt their ingenuity

I was never under the impression that, other than filling spare capacity, Hylas focused on household broadband.

The service to provide household broadband is only rational where there are no other options and there is even govt funding and support to help enable this.

Their main focus and revenue, as we have seen, comes from the back up services they supply for business and other cirtical users, eg military, emergency services.

Having another satellite in space with bandwidth availability does open up the consumer end of the market but I don't think Eutelsat service is providing the commercial end of the market that AVN does so the competitive threat is tempered.

Maybe Hylas 2 & 3 will be more consumer service based, why not, but I also would remind people that without the specialist end services that AVN developed and marketed, Hylas 1 would never have got into space.

I guess that, unlike this superg1 individual, I spin in another direction.

Eutelsat has said Ka-Sat, whose capacity will be marketed under Eutelsat's Tooway consumer broadband label, will break even financially with 700,000 subscribers but is capable of accommodating more than 1 million subscribers. The company has promised investors that Ka-Sat will generate 100 million euros per year in incremental revenue starting in its third full year of service.

There you go I'll leave you to do the match compared to Avanti to see if it's positive or negative. Avanti use tooway so in the ideal world the revenues such generally match to compete with each other.

Apologies if it's already been posted. It should have been if anyone is on the ball here. I'm not even in the share and stumble across it.

I'll find the other bit.

Somebody get a calculator out

For those that have him/her on filter, he/she claims to have found some info which shows a discrepancy between Eutelsat,s ka-band sat and Hylas1 - but the fact that he/she refuses to post a link - or even comment on it suggests that its just more of the usual nonsense.

see, I was right!

I think the only thing you would notice is that the water rotates in the opposite direction down the plughole.

this is far enough out to make our money on AVN, we shouldn't worry to much about superg1 and his or her rantings, they are profound but we will do well despite rather than because of his pontifications.

If the world starts turning in the opposite direction on 21st December 2012, I suspect the last thing we'd all be concerned about would be Hylas 1.... ;)

it is to do with which way the satellite spins and the virtues of gold coloured versus silver coloured baking foil on the satellite casing.

that's what I heard anyway and also what might happen if the world starts turning in the opposite direction on the 21st december 2012, i.e. which of the two satellites will stop working.

it's a good point, we have to be focused, right!

They have me on ignore as I predicted a fall post launch as it was over hyped by posters and paid analysts.

I'm not telling them, but someone's figures don't add up. Identical issues but a bit difference in some of the figures it seems.

I'll just wait to see which way to play it. That means buy or not by the way. I don't, and have never shorted, or even done a spread bet on any shares.

It doesn't take much effort to find the report if you look. They are so 'experienced' on here I'm surprised they haven't posted it.
