11/9/2012 12:08 | I see k0108356 posted next door. I quit like his posts, seems we broadly agree re AVN. He says he's gone bearish which made me look anew at my AVN charts. Here's the simplified one and that 343 area is re-appearing again. There's a fibonacci grid in red which has a retracement line at 337.5. But on other graphs I use it's slightly higher depending on precisely where the Fibonacci is positioned. (Canlesticks give different start and ends to a closed line). I see while I've been putting this together AVN has improved about 6p but I'll post anyway | johncsimpson
11/9/2012 10:32 | Morning All Becoming increasingly bearish on AVN from a TA aspect, yesterdays shooting star and failure to pierce the downtrend from 16/07/12, most indicators are oversold however that descending triangle looks ready to break to the downside. Yesterday really could have had all the bullish TA guys on board as well as the fundamental trader's to give that 440 level another crack however now not so good. Again i've always said i'd rather buy higher knowing it's in an uptrend rather than a downtrend. Kind Regards KullyB | k0108356
11/9/2012 09:33 | So Hylas 1 and 2 cost about 340m, and the AVN market cap is 390m. Suppose we all wait for Hylas 3 in 2015 for our 2500p. HYLAS 2 has 8,280MHz of capacity (HYLAS 1 has 3,00MHz), cost £214m. | ![]() volvo

I'll tell what, they are nothing, against the UK (AKA usa) governments, the European Space Agency, Europe etc etc etc. So what the satalite was 2 months late. Its up there now fully operational and fully backed by the UK government itself. FACTS. | ![]() volvo
11/9/2012 06:55 | Some of you don't understand what a chartist is looking for or how charting tries to work. My buys and sells here have been very simple and they have all been noted (more on the other board than here) but it's relatively easy to check back my posts. At the start of the year I had a series of purchases starting in the 300 area during February (which at the time looked like a turning point) right down to 250ish in March which ultimately was the turning point. I then sold everything at prices over 400 in July. I part bought back in at 387 (3 purchase at the end of July*, two of which were for 1309 shares it's all noted here) but a stop loss triggered and sold approx. half my holding within about a week and I subsequently sold the rest. All this is noted in detail (as I said, mostly on the other board). It's hard to succinctly state the subtleties of trend and potential and when is the best time to buy. I guess this is what some of you don't understand. Anyway, there is a current 'potential' to reverse at around 348 but it could fall as low as 338ish. With each target met comes a new 'potential' and it can obviously be up or down. Or if you like heads or tails. It's trying to get these basic calls right or at least get most of them right that charting shows it's true value. Right now, I'm still out as my buy order wasn't filled yesterday and has lapsed. But with another day has come new data. 338 is now the new potential. And I'm not explaining why but it's here in black and white. Having 'missed' my buy yesterday, I'll watch carefully again today. Obviously another RNS(s) re contracts will add to the mix as will next months results. My most recent 3 buys and 2 sells have cost me (that is, I lost money). But I can now buy more shares with that sale money than I had when I sold them. So as long as there isn't anything to 'spike' the price again then I'm essentially now waiting for 338. But I am just wasting my time here so basically I decided over my weekend in Spain that I would just see this cycle through and then stop posting here. But good luck to all. AVN is IMHO a good investment as well as a good share to trade. added: *memory error it was around 20th Aug and after that I made these purchases. | johncsimpson

10/9/2012 14:51 | Sept. 10, 2012, 9:10 a.m. EDT Orbital Sciences Corporation : ORBITAL-BUILT HYLAS 2 COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES IN-ORBIT TESTING ORBITAL-BUILT HYLAS 2 COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETES IN-ORBIT TESTING -- Operational Control of Satellite Turned Over to Avanti Communications -- (Dulles, VA 10 September 2012) -- Orbital Sciences Corporation ORB-0.63% , one of the world's leading space technology companies, announced today that the HYLAS 2 high-throughput broadband satellite has completed its in-orbit testing and operational control has been turned over to the customer, Avanti Communications Group PLC. HYLAS 2 was launched aboard an Ariane 5 rocket from Kourou, French Guiana in on August 3, 2012. A team of Avanti and Orbital engineers have since conducted several weeks of orbit raising and testing operations to prepare the spacecraft for commercial service. "This is the most complex satellite we have ever built. We couldn't be more pleased with how the post-launch operations of HYLAS 2 have proceeded," said Mr. Christopher Richmond, Orbital's Senior Vice President of its Space Systems Group. "The satellite is functioning as it should, and we have turned over full operational control to Avanti." Post-launch activities included the successful completion of a comprehensive set of tests to verify the performance of the satellites various subsystems such as propulsion, data handling, electrical, attitude control, thermal, flight software and telemetry. The satellite's three reflectors were successfully deployed, including two east-and-west reflectors, and the nadir reflector, as well as the two solar arrays that provide the satellite's electrical power. Orbital designed, built and tested the HYLAS 2 satellite at Orbital's satellite manufacturing and test facility in Dulles, VA. It carries 24 active Ka-band user beams and six gateway beams and will produce approximately 5.0 kilowatts of payload electrical power. The HYLAS 2 is also equipped with a steerable spot beam, also operating at Ka-band, which can provide coverage anywhere on Earth that is visible to the satellite. HYLAS 2 will provide data and video services to Northern and Southern Africa, Eastern Europe and the Middle East and across the Caucuses. HYLAS 2 is the latest of Orbital's highly successful GEOStar(TM) satellite platform, which is able to accommodate all types of commercial communications payloads. The GEOStar design is optimized for satellite missions requiring up to 7.5 kilowatts of payload power. In most instances, the affordable GEOStar satellite can be built and delivered in about 24 months. About Avanti Communications Group PLC Avanti sells satellite data communications services to telecommunications companies which use them to supply residential, enterprise and institutional users. Avanti's first satellite, called HYLAS 1, launched on November 26, 2010, was the first Ka-band satellite launched in Europe. Avanti's second satellite, HYLAS 2, will extend Avanti's coverage to Africa and the Middle East. Avanti's third satellite, HYLAS 3, to be launched in partnership with ESA in 2015, will provide further capacity in the EMEA region. Some 80% of Avanti's fleet capacity will address the emerging telecommunications markets of Africa and the Middle East. 10/9/2012 14:09 | I never touched my true investment though hindsight makes it clear I could have made a few more shares by selling and buying back. Not a big deal though. Cannot believe that my minimum this morning turned out to be close to the maximum. But logically it all starts here. Our potential middle men are finally able to seek funding to buy chunks of bandwidth to sell on in time for Xmas. Once there is competition out there the sales could and should escalate. Rival countries always looked good business to me and fear of missing out on the band-wagon-width will be a driving force surely? And then there are the students from rich African/Asian families who are being educated in Europe and are used to having broadband! They may need it for coursework , they may even be entrepreneurs who will try to start up a supplier based on Avanti. It could start in the Middle East because of the wealth but it looks good to me. Perhaps we should pool our resources and start our own business :O) | nugacity
10/9/2012 13:33 | We will have to wait and see Pojscott :-) I would say not maybe not going back up again today but with news on Hylas 2 this morning : "The testing process confirmed that HYLAS 2 is performing as specified and has more lifetime than planned." Then that is good news and I think an upward trend should resume now. | ![]() yorgi |
